What tools, feeds and speeds are you using?

3/4" 3flt 1"LOC 2.7" reach. 6100RPM 36IPM 1" axial depth .150" radial depth of cut. Volume milling tool path.

 

@ 2.7" Depth

 

1" Iscar Turbo mill 4852rpm 27.5IPM .100" ADC .400" RDC

 

Finish at 3.250" depth.

Wonder if a purchased extrusion with a separate top cap couled be used instead of the block? Then only light milling would be needed to get the desired peripheral

In other words a 2 part cover.

This was an Idea I was thinking over a few months ago but never went with it. I might be able to find aluminum box tube with the same profile as the valve cover flange.

I'm going to model up an idea tonight.

 

Make a valve cover from (2) 2" x 6" 6061 bars. This could make the cover taller for rocker clearance and would be way faster to machine than a 3.25" depth of cut. Would also make it easier for some differing cap designs. Base bolts to the head and the cap bolts to the base.
