Revival of the Chickenhawk...

Recommended Posts

And in case he didn't mention it (which he didn't), there is a plan afoot wherein this car will not be getting my L20b, but instead will be getting a Z20 engine with his lovely handbuilt header and the aforementioned Cannon DCOE intake with (obviously) dual DCOEs...

He mentioned the z20 just not why or where....or how

I have all the parts needed to do this including the cam.

Yeah, MY cam!!!!!!!!  Oh well, no worries.  I sold it when the phrase, "I'm never going to build another Z-20 powered car," escaped my lips.  That is the final item I need to source for Chickenhawk Mk III.  I'm sure John will find something for me.  He always does.

Glad the intake showed up in one piece   Excuse the pink bubble rap...

I didn't even notice the pink bubble wrap... but then again, I wouldn't, would I?

240Z front suspension chucked up into the vice, rack and pinion off, and LCAs off, so we car start modifying it for install.

Test fitting the Cobalt rack. Inner pivots are spot on. Just need to shorten the steering arms a wee bit, then modify the 240Z steering knuckles to fit the Cobalt tie rod...

"Wheeler Dealers" just did a Fiat Panda 4x4... and I want it so bad!  Having said that, it has inspired me to get back to work on the Baja 1200.  So, I might do something on it tomorrow.  We'll see.  (Hyperlink above is to the episode, this one is a picture... I think)

Nothing photo-worthy, but we did get some things accomplished. Might have the crossmember bolted in next weekend. Stay tuned...

I decided to not get paid today and work on my own stuff.  I made some standoffs to bolt the crossmember in and tack-welded them to said CM.  This I bolted into the car.  I'm leaving it just tacked together until we test fit the engine but my half-assed measurements seem to indicate it will be fine.

I sent a really crappy picture from my "Dumbphone" to Datsunfreak.  It might be so bad he won't post it, but he's surprised me in the past.  We'll see.

I drug the Z-20 in front of the car today and took some more measurements.  It looks like if I zook the crossmember in where it is now I will have 1/2 inch between the firewall and head, and 1/2 inch between the front pulley and lower radiator support.  I'm still going to wait until Saturday so John can check my math... probably.  We'll see.

The "problems" which are keeping me awake right now are: a) I'm beginning to wonder if the header I built will foul the firewall with the engine set this much further back, and 2) I'm going to have to use an engine hoist to change the fan belt... because I'm always changing fan belts.  (Insert imaginary "eye-roll emoti-thing" here because I can't)
