hosestop@msn.com
Yes I am doing a power steering upgrade on a 79 KK. , using Mikes 280zx big box steering set up , problem is power steering pump is too close to use any factory brackets , so I came up with this so far ,just a mock up SR20det small pump , rides on inner most pulley very low near oil pan, and will need remote reservoir , but no room for AC before and even worse now ! Hoses are no problem , I can re-use big banjo fittings and recrimp on new hoses ,anyway a waiting your input .[url=http://s1183.photobucket.com/user/Alleycatgarage/media/104_2165.jpg.html] Quote Link to comment
hosestop@msn.com
Ok has anybody run power steering on a ka powered truck with car intake, just want input or oics of their creation , trying to do it without idler pulley as you see it , keeping it simple and still no AC pump room , I guess its power steer or AC can't have both . datzenmike
Pressure is 1,100 to 1,200 PSI at idle. It's regulated, but at full on turn against the lock that's a lot of line pressure for just 'crimping the hoses on'. BTW that looks good. My pump was higher and the pump output was on the outside and didn't clear the steering box. I got a metric bolt and drilled a hole down the length and one sideways through the top so a banjo fitting would work. It also fitted internally against the relief spring and needle valve that was the regulator. This shortened everything 1/2" and with a little filing of the box cover... it cleared. ggzilla
That setup looks good to me Good thing you are a professional hydraulic hose maker. Quote Link to comment
hosestop@msn.com
Thanks Mike ,I cut off old ferrules and re-ferrule with Aeroquip hose that's says 5500 psi and ferrules mate with hose I do this every day for shops and make Ac lines brake lines etc, so hose is easy part , the bracket I drilled in blue is an airpump/smog pump bracket ,how many did I throw away ,now wish I would of kept a couple more ,shit .I wanted other peoples input before I go much further ,and will make Deeyees hoses after mine if he likes . ggzilla
Looks like there is room to fit a small modern AC compressor just above that PS pump. Quote Link to comment
hosestop@msn.com
Hey Mike which fitting on zx power steering box is pressure side from pump my guess is lower ,usually pressure is smaller hole , but these are same size. I am closer and will post near complete power steering KKab. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There are several styles of pump. Some have a fender mounted reservoir, some have the reservoir mounted on the pump. The hose that returns to the reservoir is the low pressure return line. Maybe I'm stating the obvious here. . Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
I only have power steering on my single cam. It's in the factory position up high. Not much help for the DE stuff I would think? Quote Link to comment
hosestop@msn.com
Its the power steering box with two big banjo bolts (which one gets pressure side ?),also moved bottom out on the sr pump with bracket will post up pics in a little while and maybe a Nomad in other than Datsun projects. hosestop@msn.com
Ok had to space lower side of pump out for adjustment ,its all loose not lined up but close ,sr20 pump has wider pulley than ka24de main crank and water pump pulleys . Also look at slight angles on steer column and rag joint from Napas ,I widened rear hole on power steering box and did not touch frame collars ,next will be hoses , note the 4" metal tube I welded AN #6 male to pipe at pump which will get a 90 deg. hose fitting. return to reservoir is 1/2 " one from pump slightly kinked should be ok have + 1.5 " adjustment on pump , and Dee yee have a couple pumps for Srs not used in swaps.[url=http://s1183.photobucket.com/user/Alleycatgarage/media/104_2216.jpg.html][[url=http://s1183.photobucket.com/user/Alleycatgarage/media/104_2217.jpg.html]] Quote Link to comment

hosestop@msn.com
Here it is with hoses , found a factory banjo type with metal tube in an S shape so I re- crimped areoquip pressure hose on it for steering box side and used a straight # 6 fem. swivel fitting for pressure side on pump ,BMW reservoir not attached yet hanging there , anyway there it is so far.]][url=http://s1183.photobucket.com/user/Alleycatgarage/media/104_2224.jpg.html][ Quote Link to comment
