This is just ridiculous. I will point out why below: Look at it this way, for his narrative to work the way he says it needs these elements. 1.) Multiple people trying to cheat him on getting a battery replaced, 2.) setting this up within a couple of days of buying the battery, and 3). finding a BAD BATTERY OF THE EXACT SAME TYPE AND STYLE. Where the hell would you even find a bad blue top optima OF THE EXACT SAME TYPE AND STYLE? Stores recycle them as they are worth some money. If it was bad don't you think it would have been returned already under the 2yr free replacement warranty you get when you buy one from the store? He states "found in the trash" has anyone here ever seen one of these found in the trash before? And of the exact same style? Remember he doesn't state what style he had in his ad, we would have no way of knowing that until the battery was purchased and he was contacted about it being bad a couple of days after the sale. Anyways the short of it is this: this is the same battery he sold. See: short, simple, and the truth. His story for why it is the not the same battery is: ridiculous, overly complicated, and requires coincidence bordering on the absurd. Why? Because it is NOT THE TRUTH. Quote Link to comment

I'm hoping I can get it to charge, I've left it overnight charging but it's a slow charge (4a/55ah battery) so it should take like 12-14 hours to fully charge. Also I pulled it off a couple of times and tried to start the car and the starter barely turns over. It shows 12.5 volts initially but then drops to 11 volts. However, the indicator is still showing a partial charge on the charger. Usually the battery should charge pretty fast unless it is really dead. What is really in question more than anything is who is going to take it in the shorts over this crap battery and obviously, that is going to happen to either the buyer or the seller in this case. What I personally find shitty is that the seller knows this is not some battery from the trash, whether or not he gives you money back or not is really a whole other topic, but this dog and pony show of the laser etching and someone going so far out of their way to try and get a free battery from him is just not flying. If he just said flat out that he was not refunding your money because those batteries have no warranty and told you to eat it...it would still be a dick move, but at least it's not some made up defense to it. If we were to cut all the legalities out of this for just a second, such as not buying a battery from a store, no receipt and that sort of thing, but based this only on what is the right thing to do, I feel that most would agree that the decent thing is that the seller would be the one to bite the bullet and give you a new battery. Unfortunately, that is not how many things work these days with private parties, it's a "bought it how ya saw it" and that's it, kinda deal. What we end up with is both seller and buyer making a bad choice so to speak. I am betting the buyer wishes he had never bought a battery from anywhere other than a store he could return it to (even if it cost a little more) and the seller...The seller thinks he is going to be out a few bucks, so he has come up with this whole laser scenario of how to not take the loss for himself. What he does not take into account of course is that if he had been the one to take the loss and make the buyer happy, yeah, he will lose a little on that, but how much would he gain in the future by being known as a really good guy to deal with. It certainly avoids saying I bought them and they have a warranty. . For the buyer.... You were not buying a 'new' battery from a dealer or you would have paid more or at the least gotten a warranty so some of the fault is yours. Surely you must have realized that there was more risk involved when entering this transaction than if you had gone to an Optima battery dealer? For the seller, I assume he has sold in good faith and believes the battery to be 'new', good and worth $140. For the buyer I believe he is also in good faith trying to return a faulty battery. So.... Did the seller explain and show the battery was 'marked' for identification? Because this sure would have helped both parties when/if returning it. If you expected brand new then why did you not get a warranty? Surely instead, you must have expected new-ish or nearly new or maybe newly bought and never used? Did you think this was bought 'brand new' just last week from the Optima dealer and sold to you for a loss? Every body has a different definition for new. the seller posted these for sale in the eagle rock swap 3 swap meets ago seemed legit so I agreed to buy a battery batteries looked clean had caps on the terminals and appeared to be new when we were there my friend Dguy asked where I got the battery so I sent him over to salvadore we do not know which battery was his or mine only that one of them was good and one was bad when we got home Quote Link to comment

If you were up here Ranman, I could probably cut you a decent deal for a N99D34MBLUE for somewhere around $200 or $195, somewhere in there. There's not a lot of room to move on batteries. Another interesting fact for you to know is Optima batteries are made by Johnson Controls Incorporated. (They have a plant in Canby as a matter of fact.) HOWEVER, the part number varies depending on who they're made for. For instance, all Optimas built for NAPA are going to have an "N" before the part number. That's how we can tell it's bullshit if a guy brings in an Optima for warranty and it doesn't have an N. I'm not sure of the designation for other parts houses, but that is a simple way to do a basic tracking for where the battery originally was sold. Also, as you probably know, volts don't mean shit on a battery. Amps do. Before buying any used battery, use a machine to load test it and see if it actually has any power left. Quote Link to comment
