1968 Datsun 521 AWD

Here is the truck I am starting with :)

I finally got my chasis this week.

starting with a 1985 s10 4x4 chasis.

going to be stripping it down completely and rebuilding it from the ground up with quality parts.

first stage (suspension and steering):
zq8 rear springs
zq8 sway bars (front and rear)
zq8 hop shock
beltech torsion bar keys
zq8 steering box
complete front suspension and steering rebuild

stage 2 (frame mods):
shorten wheelbase 10"
relocate cab and bed mounts
add datsun front and rear bumper mounts

stage 3 (driveline):
decide (tpi, lt1, lsx)
trailblazer ss or syty/bravada transfer case
4L60, 4L70, or 4l80 transmission (leaning to 4l60/70 that matches transfer case)
custom length rear driveshaft
modify front differential for awd or replace with bravada unit
upgrade to rear disk brakes
posi in the rear

stage 4 (body/wheels):
cut out firewall and floor pan
fabricate new transmission tunnel (s10 trans tunnel may be used)
rebuild firewall
add steel cowl to stock hood
modify radiator core support to use bigger radiator
fender flares (gotta find some i like)
paint robins egg blue pearl with pearl white accents
wheels (thinking 93-94 firehawk wheels in pearl white)

stage 5 (wiring and interior):
modify gm wiring harness to fit the datsun (have 97 silverado for parts)
2nd gen s-10 manual steering column (tilt)
astro steering shaft
chevy sonic guage cluster (if i can make it work)
buick lesabre seats with integrated seat belts
bravada or syty floor shifter

stage 6 (stereo):
kicker comp 10 custom box that extends under driver seat
kicker 6.5" speakers in the kick panels
kicker amp under passenger seat
4x6 speakers in the dash top
Kenwood cd player (kdc-7004)

Hey Bob, when you weigh your race cars/trucks one wheel at a time, what do you use as a scale?

 

I have a set of race scales. There are four scales all wired to a screen that shows you the corner weights, cross weight and percentage splits.
