Haha thanks everyone! I wasn't sure if this forum was really into stock cars.. but happy to hear that there are a few! Deep down I'd like to do some performance upgrades, but it kinda breaks my heart to do it to this particular car. So stock it'll be. Pictures, hrm.. I haven't really done too much it or driven it, so i haven't been taking too many pictures.

Ignition light was on a couple weeks ago, but took the alternator to my electrician and he cleaned up the windings and it seems to be working just fine. Temperature gauge stopped working, so I pulled the wire and cleaned the ends, and now it seems to be working. The brake light indicator in the dash wasn't working, cleaned the contact/ground, and now it's working just fine. hrmm.. sounds like i will be doing a lot of that in the future :D but I'm still shock that everything works. So I'm still very lucky lol.

However, everytime I drive it.. I feel like I have hundreds of questions about the car :( sigh, have a lot to learn. Again, any input/comments to any of my silly questions will be greatly appreciated.

Will try and get some photos up soon!

There's things you can do to improve the car, but will still look stock. You could, and others will suggest for safety and some reliability factors, swapping in 280ZX front struts/brakes. They bolt right in. ZX rotors are vented and larger than stock, and have a larger caliper. It appears you have 14" wheels so caliper clearance shouldn't be an issue. Stock drums in the back is fine. Other smaller things like a rear swaybar will improve the cars handling in corners, if that's how you drive it.

Thanks for the tips and compliments :D

Drove it to work today. The original owner came by to check on another project car we are working on for him. He was happy to see it go to a good home. Nice guy.

Busta Nut - thanks! yes, I'm just trying to keep it simple and enjoy puttsing around town. Absolutely love driving this thing. :D Would like to come out Saturday, but I have plans and the rain isn't making me too adventurous with the 510 ;(

skyblue & xUltra510 - thanks! and nope it wasn't me or the previous owner.. we live in the East Bay Area.

Morning!

I was wondering if there were just lowering springs available for the 510? I'm not really interested in cut and welding in a coilover setup for the front (though I would for any other project). The only thing I could find quickly were Suspension Techniques, but it looks like it's discontinued.. Any help would be appreciated!

PM Datsunfreak. He has done many 510 restorations and can answer any questions you have. He is about to take delivery of my 510 Sedan that I rescued from a West Texas wrecking yard. It had been sitting there for 20+ years. The wrecking yard owner had a friend's dad who raced 510s in the late 70's. The wrecking yard owner told me he couldn't send it to the crusher and hoped someone would rescue it someday. I retrieved it, now Datsunfreak will work his magic and have a really nice 510 when he is done. Your car looks like a factory sponsored show car compared to 90% of the 510s out there. This is what Datsunfreak has to work with.

Been a while since I've posted anything. Haven't done much.. went through the distributor. Points were in good condition, replaced condensor, rotor, cap, check dwell and advance, and put some spark plugs in. Neglected the poor thing :(

Now it's intermittently stumbles at an idle. Not quite sure if it's related to the distributor work or not. Hope I can figure it out and make it out to SJ for the meet.

the big condensor goes to the main set points

2nd set uses a smaller condensor.

best you get a Pertonix or a later EI distributor then you never have to worry about this again.

Pertronix only works in single point dizzys. If duel point then wont fit.

POINTS SUCK

I see you have the screw in type vaccum advnce.  must still have the stock carb

I actually prefer points.. it's something i can diagnose and check. i have a sun distributor machine at work. Not a fan of Pertronix, I've used them on other cars at work and they've been failing fairly often. can't diagnose them since it's electronic ignition other then swap out distributors.

Yup, just a stock carb :D been running great until lately.. i do have a set of round top Hitachi SSS carbs and manifold that i haven't had time to work on.. maybe this winter..

for the rears most go with Dodge D 50 springs, and fronts, you cut a coil or

get a split collar and grind off the weld and lower the spring perch and place where ever and tighten split collar under spring perch.

if you go the second route, most advise getting a shorter insert with a better stroke to match your needs. or rebuilding the old ones with thicker oil.

there is a company from like the 90'sand early 00's than made a front and rear kit the springs were yellow and the box was yellow and purple iirc.

some of these old timers would know the name i just cant think of it at the moment.

also one beautiful car! where in the East bay are you? there are a few of us here in the east bay.

you don't have a location.. Is this a catfish or something?

Also, I've got D50's with Camaro shocks.  They seem okay.. Need to get a bit more time on them. If anything they are a little stiff.
