Both of them have the Z24 motors?!please help... . Length is the big difference. Either will bolt up to the Z24 but will be longer or shorter. The 720 had 31.5" and 26" FS5W71B 5 speeds in Z series and SD diesel configuration. The 4x4 5 speeds did not have a speedometer drive in them as it was run from the transfer case. Used up until '86.5 After '86.5 the D21 Hardbody had the next gen FS5W71C 5 speeds AND F4W71C 4 SPEEDS !!! (so watch out, they look similar) in the 2wd that was about a inch shorter I believe, certainly NOT the same length as the 71B transmissions. The 4x4 had 5 speeds with a built in transfer case and cannot be used or mistaken for a 2wd transmission. Quote Link to comment
