521 Window Crank

One of the window cranks on Ratsun was missing a knob.  Here is two options for dealing with that problem.

First option, use a crank off another vehicle.  This is a window crank off a 1974 Ford F-250.

This crank fits, using the Datsun crank screw to hold it.  The screw is a #10-32 oval head screw, you can replace the screw with a Stainless steel screw, if you wanted to.

The Ford Crank sits a little ways from the door panel.  Handy if you reupholster the door panel with thicker padding.

This is the crank that was on Ratsun, it was missing the knob.  There are repair kits available to replace thew knobs.

Here is a closer look at the repair kit.

The knob hole in the Datsun crank is slightly too small for the knob to fit.   A 19/64 drill is a good size to make the knob fit.

That drill was busy drilling the crank out, and not with its friends.

There is a spring washer in the repair kit, and a pin you push, or lightly hammer into the new knob.  Sorry, no pictures of that.  But here is the new knob on the Datsun crank.
