Fuelrags
Hey Guys, I'm looking for a Performance Cam for my 73' 620 L16 or a source to by one locally in So Cal? Also what Cam do you guys prefer for L16's? Link to comment
datzenmike
Get the cam out of an L20B head. It has almost the same, if not the same specs as an L16 SSS. 248 degree 0.413 lift. In fact swap the whole head. Larger valves and ports and you don't have to mess with the lash pads and such. Have the head resurfaced to help conserve the compression or get a p-nut from an L20B. Plug and play. Link to comment

datsunfish
L20b cam might be a little better but not much. Get a .450 238 regrind from http://www.webcamshafts.com ($145) and then order .160 lash pads from ztherapy ($60 for 8 with shipping). You will need new rockers($15-$25 each) or have them resurfaced($4 each last I checked). Any head other than the 210,unless you have it ported and install larger valves. Peanut head would be the best for a L16. This will wake it up alot but will still lack low end torque. Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I would get the cam above that one! the 488 252 rememebr you have to subtract the valve lash otherwise thats not the true lift. those measurements are taken with 0 lash Isky 475 would be another good minimum in cam lift. Scheider 460/270 best to get a L20 to start with as the cost would be the same cams work best with dual carbs, match ported head(Believe ME) you can spend alot of money$$$$ on the head/cam set up and be dissapointed if you just have a Weber DGV carb on there Link to comment
datsunfish
The 460 is the largest you can go before needing new springs and retainers. The 488 or 475 would require a couple hundred more to get it going. I cant imagine the l20b cam would do anything noticeable unless for a 210 head maybe? It would be just as good an idea to swap out the head containing the l20b cam rather than swapping a cam. It would already have larger ports. I measured a pile of stock cams once and came up with them all equaling around 430. I used the same method on my 450 and a friends 460 and they read true. So not to be an asshole but I would debate that the l20b cam is that much larger. Hainz set me straight on cams back on the nwde board and I set up a 450 268 on my L16 with open a87. It is by far superior to the stocker. Its a little lumpy, very responsive and could definitely hold up for some sides but I want to wait til I get a high compression head or larger block in there. I run a dgv but either with my edelbrock or ported stock to a ported matched head and it rocks but still not the racer I wish it was. Cams=$$$ The reason I posted the webcamshaft stuff was because I feel it would be the best bang for the $$ and not as much entailed to achieve some nice results. Link to comment
