A friend traded his year old Baracuda for a '71 Mach One Boss 429. I drove it for an evening and to this day one of the nicest sounding exhausts. He got rid of it... shitty mileage (oil crisis '72) and you couldn't get at to change the spark plugs. He was always wanting to race me, but I didn't want to loose so I said ok if I pick the place. Naturally I picked the one with the worst traction. 3 out of 3.

We were young and I was really 'into' the muscle car scene. I had a '70 Dart and he bought a 318 Plymouth Barracuda. Old man automatic. He could see he was missing out on the fun so had a chance to trade and went too far the other way. It was a handful of a car and traction was a problem.

My son and his friend ran an auto mod shop in Torrance CA.  A customer insisted on stuffing a really big V8 into his Vega.  Despite their best efforts to dissuade the customer, he insisted on going ahead with the swap.  When finished my son and his partner first got paid.  The customer backed out of the garage and proceeded to go on to the road.  He reved the engine.  Twisted the whole car like an empty beer can.  The customer promptly ordered another conversion.

Some people don't learn from experience.

The reason he said "Really" is they only built Boss 429 Mustangs in 69 and 70.

The only thing that twisted on my LT1 powered Vega was the stock transmission mount ended up S shaped from the torque. It was not a stock LT1 either, it had a hotter cam and a couple of other tweaks to make around 400hp.

Maybe I'm remembering Boss but it wasn't?

It had the triangle NACA scoops.

Says here the '71 Mach 1 had 2 optional 429 engines.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_Mach_1

The 2 429s were the Cobra Jet and the Super Cobra Jet. The Boss 429 was discontinued after 1970 when NASCAR outlawed them.
