I finally found it, that is a nail head with the flow reversed, but couldn't find who or why.

Probably the exhaust was restricted so switcheroo. Larger intake valve used as an exhaust.

I just read that the nail heads had very restrictive exhaust ports so as long as it was a blown engine this was thought to help. I couldn't find any info telling if it worked any better but I doubt if it did.

Pretty sure that's a Buick V8. Some out-of-the-box thinking going on there. One of the early rail jobs. Lots of experimentation going on during that time period of drag racing. The the best part is the blower mounted in front of the engine and coupled directly to the crank snout.  Couldn't do that with the intake in the V.

Yes you could, a lot of cars used front mount blowers back in the 60s without using reverse flow.

Wow, had no idea others tried the front mount blower, and that twin engine job is crazy!  Thanks for posting those.

More twin engines, but less eight cylinders. 1st gen Civic IMSA racer. Left one has twin choke side drafts, while the right one has cycle carbs:

^ ^ ^   Damn, that brings back memories !! Owned two Fastback and one Squareback Type 3 VW's in the 70's.   ^ ^ ^

Always did and still lust after a sunroof Knotchback. Those were great little cars !!

Type 3 VW is what you get when a Type 1 Beetle grows up !!
