DaBlist
Would like to have a "After Disaster" rig. Something that can get around when the roads are impassable. The above axles on a Suburban or Van. Like below but not sure those axles are up to the job. Diesel powered, able to drag large downed trees out of the way etc. 1 Quote Link to comment
q-tip
Just buy a unimog, does all those things right out of the box and has portal axles for lower gearing and higher ground clearance. 1 Quote Link to comment

Lockleaf
Nice truck. I really like the rims. Gm 22x9 inch steelies. They are ”transit” rims. When you order a GM with the 22" wheel package, they ship it to the dealer with these on it, and the dealer puts on the pretty rims. These are never supposed to leave the dealer, they aren't even technically DOT rated. I think they are awesome. 3 Quote Link to comment

Lockleaf
I respectfully disagree. This news article specifically mentions the use of 22 inch transit wheels and the money that GM saved by having them. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/general-motors/2015/09/06/gm-savings/71829946/ Purchased from GM dealer, carries commentary from GM employees taking about the stupidly high core price they are/were charged for them. http://www.gmfullsize.com/threads/22-gm-transit-smoothie-dogdish-nbs-wheels.293015/ That's just one thread about them, started by the guy who got them at the dealer. There are numerous repeats of that story. So unless you argue internet conspiracy, I remain convinced of the facts from what I originally stated. Quote Link to comment
jrock4224
let me load my gun ..... escalade 6 lug ..... those trucks pictured .... even the 6 lug models get swapped to 5 lug ....second look at the profile to those wheels compared to above ...... this isnt a new trend ... ....look at the size of the barrel on the wheels on the truck above compared to the wheels you pictured .... its like the argument of step lips to flat lips.... those are NOT transport wheels on many of those full sizes above ..... the gm wheel is a common stamped steel center in 16 and a barrel to accommodate tires of various sizes....its not new tech .. you can order any trim package, wheel delete(you almost pay more to delete wheels fyi) and get these wheels, while very uncommon, it happens.... that article is just a fluff article to make people think the car industry is trying to save money after being bailed out yet still charging grotesque prices for a polished tahoe .... Side note blis..... i replaced the van ...... 2002 suburban 2500 8.1 cast iron ls ....ugh 3 miles to the gallon .... ordering lift kit and got the wheels and tires here .... kinda like he 70 u pictured above .... 7 inch lift 35 tires ... hauls my enclosed trailer like a beast .... torquey little gas guzzler ... )11 trailering and 14-15 on highway mpg( oh and lastly lock ..... any wheel that came on a dealership car and was provided to you for purchase, would HAVE to be DOT approved...... and although your story corroborates that saying those ar transport wheels is inaccurate ...... i can show u a set though to tell you they do exist .... Lockleaf
Are you arguing that gm doesn't make 6 lug 22 inch steelies or that the old truck I posted wasnt wearing them? That truck may very well be a bad post on my part. Not arguing that I might have gotten that wrong. I'm arguing your statement that they aren't a real gm rim that exists Quote Link to comment
