What makes you think a SD22 engine will be any cheaper? Your better off finding a running(barely) one and scrapping the truck out, that way you get the flywheel, tranny, and starter, everything you need, even the wiring harness. This guy has one in the link below, I know him, we live in the same town, if he says it runs, it likely will run.
