sr71sss
w/o much hassle go with the 200sx se v6, you can use everything except the oil pan as it it a front sump. intake is a better fit w/o much to do unlike the stock 300zx manifold, you probably will need to source the distributor and intake from an early nissan pathfinder with TBI, I think everyone has been using the "saudi" distributor but I'm sure some one on here will chime in to fill in my blanks Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
The tranny tunnel in the goon is to small for the big nissan auto, which also has an extra control modual, aka some extra wiring is involved. Just a few things to think about with the auto trans. Quote Link to comment
b210in
if you plan on running a carb, you can easily drill and tap four holes in a stock vg30i (early pathfinder) intake to mount a weber carb or you can pay vg30.com 200 bucks to modify the same intake to run a two barrel holley. i would use megajolt jr for the ignition, it's cheaper than putting a saudi dizzy. the saudi dizzy is a drop in installtion however, but good luck finding one. also, if you are planning to use headers and want to make your own, a good place to start is to get a set of mercury villiger (they come stock with the vg30e) exhaust manifolds, they are factory shorty header style exhaust manifolds, and just hack off the pipes and weld your own to make a fully custom fit. i haven't tried this yet, but i dont see why it wouldn't work. Its not like you're hooking up 200 wires. Its more like 7 or 8 wires that actually splice into your goons harness. The rest just attaches to the engine itself and thats just installing connectors to the sensors they belong too. I think its easier to run the EFi simply because of how difficult it is to source the parts mentioned above. g/l with the swap. peace. Quote Link to comment
cgovia
what about the fuel pump issues can I use a after market fuel pump? Right now I have a faucet electric pump running my 1600 Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
Does Dave have any VG30 kits on hand? When he has them he cant sell them. Then somebody has one and cant sell them. I say dont waist your time esp if in Hawaii parts are harder to get. Back in the day I seen alot of 510s in Hawaii in the yards rotting away. Just get the car running with what in it. datzenmike
Failure to complete the swap, (money, time G/F, fabrication skills, proper tools or place to keep a project) means the car often gets scrapped. If you were to get discouraged by Hainz's comments maybe you didn't want it bad enough and another 510 is saved. Just sayin' you have to be hungry to do this swap. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Dave Carrol will only make so many kits before he just losses money cause nobody buys. Icehouse on here would tell kids you get the car ready He will wire up the Ka/Sr motors. 9 out of 10 never make it. I been on here long enought to see so many datsuns go to the junk yard cause they cant even change to a weber carb or do a timing chain. I see people try to save a rotted 510 and spend thousands then one will pope up for nothing and then that one is lost. If this was a 1990 E30 1st gen M3 people will save them but not a datsun. If I sold my 521 to the last guy Ithatdropped a number on my windshield I lay money with in 6 months it will be broke. He offered my 1500. But I will have to sell if for 3k if Im lucky as the person who pays more might be willing to invest. Be honest Ratsun is on its deaths throws now and the Datsuns being found and save is at a bare minimum now cause all the people that was on here didnt finissh them or the cars went to the dump. More 720s. on here. 510 realm is pretty much done. I love 510s they are simple cars. But whey not more on the road????????L motos are EZ to fix nothing to them. I wish I saved 510 wagons but I can only save so many. Back then wagons were CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wish I never got the 521. Too late now everybody threw the wagons away then wagons were all the rage Edited May 16 by banzai510(hainz) Quote Link to comment

But seriously, truth is a lot of the younger kids are just not that into Datsuns anymore. 60s and 70s stuff is just to "old" for them and they want stuff from the late 90s early 2000s. And to be fair the newer cars do ride nicer, make more power and more junk is available for them. Even in the 60s and 70s stuff it is the rare muscle cars etc... that anyone cares about it seems. Kind of how it was with 50s stuff and GenX/Millenials, with the boomer demographic cliff coming up I expect a lot of 50s cars to initially go up overpriced junk and then crash in value. Unfortunately too true. Locally I've been seeing many fixed up 50's and 60's cars just sitting on Craigs list getting bumped up again and again. Quote Link to comment

Evertime I drive my beat up 510 the kids love it. Throw flowers. Teen age mothers say Kiss my baby when I drive by My 521 looks good in photos. But is slowly biodegrading. I got a brak line that has a slow leak and the trans leaks oil out the front of the trans seal inside and the back one. I swapped them out and still has a slow leak. I fill up every 2 months if I drive it heavy. This mean the next guy I sell it to most likely run it out of oil or the brakes master goes dry and is smashed in 6 months. But otherwise it will live and run if I own it. people still Love Datsuns. true is younger kids cant fix a carb. They think you just double click a fuel injection system and it runs 3 yrs ago I ran into a guy who said he had a 510 in my town. i said it running ? he said NO. I said they SIMPLE. I told him if all there I will fix it for him for FREE. he said NO. fuck him . I cant save them all. I do what I can and steer other from not having them if they are mostly not capable. I have given parts for free and call 6months later they sold all the stuff and car or went to the dump cause they got kicked out for not paying rent or car gotr towed and went to the dump. EWven my days on here are getting numbered. Edited May 17 by banzai510(hainz) 1 Quote Link to comment
