FiveSeventyZee
Sold Junior to buy a 4x4. stepping out of the Datto family on this one but I've still got my Z. Here she is just after I got home. More pics to come. Shouldnt be too much going on for a while, but eventually I would like to give her a lift and real long term plan is to body swap a 520 single headlight model on the yota frame and swap in a VW 1.9TDI. but thats years away, for now I'm dailying a yota.. 9 Quote Link to comment

maltese
Looks clean. I miss my old 4Runner every now and then. That early 3.0L is much less problematic than the later version. Have fun with it! Quote Link to comment

Different guy. I had 3 people come check it out in just a few days. Sold it on tuesday. Still had another 4 people interested haha. Now I just gotta get my Z car on the road to get my datsun fix haha Quote Link to comment

FiveSeventyZee
Nice '87 oldskool! I'm lovin mine already and I only bought her yesterday! haha.I'm a little too high on HC and CO to pass smog  Doing a minor tune up now to try and burn the excess fuel... simple stuff, spark plugs, air filter, oil change...we'll go from thereSome cool stuff I found in the glovebox Quote Link to comment
FiveSeventyZee
tune up got it through smog. And on its first long journey, 250 miles from the bay area to san luis it did the EPA estimated 20 mpg highway! not bad for a 24 year old truck :P Quote Link to comment
thatguy
Had a lot of good times in my buddy's first generation 4-runner. Top on wheeling in the snow in Truckee, top off wheeling in the fields in Truckee. Always wanted one, but haven't. Enjoy it. Quote Link to comment
FiveSeventyZee
pulled the roof for the first time. way easier than I thought it'd be. Quote Link to comment
FiveSeventyZee
got stuck for the first time as well...also easier than I thought it would be. my auto locking hubs dont seem to work so I'm looking for some aisin manual hubs now. this is the result of 2wd, 35psi in the tires, a little sand and some major newb status driving (my first time out in the sand) Quote Link to comment

You should have "auto" and not "ADD". Make sure, the conversions are different. The beauty of the conversion is that if you lock the hubs, you now have 4x4 shift on the fly. Literally, you do not have to stop to go into 4-wheel. That's how I use it when I go to Tahoe in the winter. I got my rebuilt Aisin hubs from Wabfab.org Just noticed you have the V6. Lucky. FiveSeventyZee
Yeah I checked I have auto hubs not ADD. Quote Link to comment
FiveSeventyZee
Got some hubs, got em cleaned up, waiting on gaskets and will be installing them shortly :D Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
You need the nut and washer kit too if I recall correctly. 1 Quote Link to comment
maltese
You need the nut and washer kit too if I recall correctly. X2. The auto hubs use integrated nut/locknuts. Grab some new nuts and washers, and a 54mm socket too. 1 Quote Link to comment
FiveSeventyZee
yup, thats in the mail as well. I'm already 2 steps ahead of y'all  Quote Link to comment
FiveSeventyZee
They're in! 4wd works now woohoo! :D 1 Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
How you like that shift on the fly? Pretty sweet eh? I get to change the seals in my drivers rear axle. Dif fluid all over the brakes. Think my dif vent is clogged with mud. Got my parts from Marlin, will possibly change both seals and bearings tomorrow. Also got new vents on the way for front and rear. Quote Link to comment
FiveSeventyZee
haven't tried shifting on the fly yet. when you do it do you clutch? or just shift the T-case? and can you go from 4 hi to 4 lo without stopping as well? Quote Link to comment
FiveSeventyZee
Thinking about painting the roof since its got some seriously splotchy sections...toying with the idea of not redoing it in black but doing something different to make the ole girl stand out a bit...Any ideas? Spoona_Jay21
CAMO FTW! my dad had an 84' 4runner, lifted, bobbed on 35's in flat white with a camo roof. looked pretty damn epic. Quote Link to comment
FiveSeventyZee
I'm considering camo lol, I've also been thinking about bright colors...bright orange? baby blue? lime green? haha, i'm half tossing around the idea of one of those three with matching wheels...I don't really care about the steelies on it right now so I don't care about painting them rediculously...the roof I suppose I could always repaint if its too hard to live with... oldskoolvws
Yeah I need to do the same. I want to do it soon. I'm probably going to do with the rustoleum roll on method for long lasting and a little texture. I'd like to do the plasticon method but not sure of the durability. Quote Link to comment
FiveSeventyZee
One thing I'm pretty sure on is even if I keep it black, I'm gonna shoot it with a couple coats of clear gloss after I paint it. I haven't seen any 1st gen runners with gloss paint on the roof. probably because I've only ever seen the factory colors which to my knowledge were all flat paint Quote Link to comment
