lets talk insurance.

Recommended Posts

My 1976 620 is finally road worthy. I do not plan for it to be my daily driver. Just a sunday drive type of truck until I work more bugs out.  I am checking in to collector plates here they are called pioneer plates , the kind only for vehicles you only drive occasionally to parades or shows.

Whats my best bet for insurance coverage. I am sure state farm would value it at zero.

In my opinion USSA, off the top of my head i cant remember what i pay anually and I pay up front for the whole year but its inexpensive comparitivly and the big bonus is they have collecter car insurance that will insure your car not only what they deem its worth but also what you have invested. So for example say i bought my Z for 4500 then spent the next year or so throwing ludicrouse amounts of dough at it say another 4000(with receipts) im at 8500 then a month later its totalled I send the company all my receipts and such and they give me 8500. I thinks thats rather radical yo. Call some different companies and see what you can get

agreed value collector car insurance - Hagerty. Limited miles, pleasure, parades, car shows, must be garaged. Can't be used to haul stuff or be a daily driver. You have to have another car with proof of coverage. By far the cheapest for my 240z. agreed value at $5K about $100 a year. I have their road side assistance which rivals AAA premium for another $125 or so.

Liability only on the truck is about $25 a month. Not sure what an agreed value policy would be for the truck, but then it's used to haul stuff and wouldn't qualify for agreed value. I could get full coverage regular insurance with stated value, but haven't looked into that.

I think SlottedMagz means "USAA".  Also check out Hagerty, they have insurance packages for antique and rare cars driven only in parades and to car shows.  Check all possibilities!

As to value! You can't beat www.nadaguides.com/classic-cars/  enter your make and model as prompted.  These are real valuations, not hanger queen pristine models and are so stated and give the lie to the insurance adjuster's "There's no listing for a car that old." B.S.  Never accept the crap the adjuster tries to give you.  He's paid by the insurer to screw you.

I have Hagerty on my Cutlass.  It's $200/yr for agreed value of $8k.  What darrel said about the other car as a DD is true.  They audited my Cutlass application because I listed my 510 as my daily B) .  It's pretty simple and can be done online.  I haven't had a claim with them yet so I don't know how good they are on that front.
