My First 72 620 (Dirt)

Recommended Posts

Just picked up this 72 620 from a tree farm in Shelton.  Its all stock except for the 15" chevy steelies in the back & someone already put in a matchbox dizzy B)

Its got surface rust here & there, some dings & dents.  Has the stock L16 & 4 speed trans.  It started right up but wouldn't idle.  It would not go into gear either.

Loaded her up & brought her home for some TLC.

I figured out the running issue.  There was a huge hole in the brake booster vacuum line.  I also drained the gas tank of its brownish fuel.  I put on a weber & it now runs like a top!  Changed the oil & put in some fresh NGK spark plugs.  Drained the coolant, flushed the radiator & put in some fresh coolant.  The slave was shot so I put on a new one & after a good bleeding it now shifts.  Surprisingly the brakes are good!

Now its time for some pics before I clean her up.

Doug.

Curious as what your method and what you use to polish these things up is...  What kind of compound, buffing etc?

I use TR-3 Cleaner Wax.  This stuff is AWESOME!  Just rub it on by hand & dry off with clean cloth.  It wont get that deep shine that a mechanical buffer will but its quicker & easier.  The last can I bought was @ O'reillys.

After countless hours of Knuckle-Busting work on the 72, it is now my D.D.D. B)

5 speed trans swap

lowered

new radiator

white walls

clear-coated rusty stock rims

weber

stereo

L8r model seat belts

front bumper

buffed paint

Clutch slave

oil,temp & volt gauges

& more!

She runs & drives good.  Needs new valve guides cuz she smokes in the morning bad.  Needs front suspension work.  Shakes bad @ 50 mph.

Here are PICS as it sits now.

Got "Dirt" back in the garage for a head swap.  Decided to pull the motor out to do some cleaning & re-seal up the leaky bitch!.

Going from the stock oil burning 210 head to a W53 Peanut head.
