No - Gold/Black plates haven't been approved yet.

Also,if you repaint plates in different colors,it gives the cops a legal reason to pull you over.

If, and only if, you have valid Yellow / Black Calif plates originally issued to your vehicle, there are DMV authorized repaint colors that you can use to "refresh" your plates.  If you have your genuine plates not originally issued to your vehicle It becomes dicey.  Some have requested Vanity Plates in the same number/letter order as their original plates.  Refurbished the original plates, mounted them and displayed the new Vanity Plates in the front and rear windshields.  Don't know if this approach will pass muster with the local sheriff / constable / speed trap!  Good luck!

                     Sorry,didn't make it clear - I meant the 7 place (numbers/letters) ones.

I have a couple of mint Gold/Black plates that I got from my Dad,who had them on

cars that he owned "way back when".Unfortunatley,I only have one of each.

Might be enough!  Just might have been only a single plate in some years!  Collectors of the same year vehicles just might be interested in those antique plates.  If nothing else, they just might be prone to display the "correct" year plate in the windscreen at a car show.
