datzenmike
Does that mean there is a post count requirement to use the classified system? Everything can be worked around if new posts display in 'New Content.' The "old system" isnt an actual system... it was just regular posting. Therefore you cant add any require fields. The "new system" is an actual programed plugin that allows you to manipulate the code to add in fields. . I believe you have to have 25 posts to use the classifieds. (I would prefer more) This should cut down on people joining just to sell their shit...... OR there will be more useless posts to up the count. The complaint button has been repaired and seem to work now. Any problems with a classified post such as a part misidentified, you can report it to the mods. A complaint about the price will be ignored. Link to comment
Guest 510kamikazifreak
Well hopefully this works better than the "new" quotes do. :frantics: Link to comment
datzenmike
Well the new classifieds suck. I JUST WANT TO SEE ADS IN THE NEW CONTENT PAGE!!! I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO CHECK ANOTHER PAGE TO SEE THE ADS Yes I used all caps, yes I am shouting, yes I am frustrated. And what happens when people just make threads in specific sections of the forum? Will they get locked? Because I would sooner just make a thread in the 510 section, than use the new layout. . I understand. No one (or very few) look forward to change. We tend to learn and get comfortable with what we have now and change is upsetting. I can only say that it's intended to be better even if at first it doesn't appear to. The last forum change was the same and now I don't even remember the way it was. Use the classifieds as much as you can. Think of it as new clothes, slightly stiff and with fold lines on it, needing to be worn and washed a few times to be comfortable. Link to comment

datzenmike
lol, hey I'm with you here... but, it was a lot of work deleting useless posts that basically said GLWS, back and forth asking for pictures, asking "is this still for sale" on a neco (dead 3 year) posting. All to trim away the crap and keep the for sale item easy for members to wade through. Oh, and lets not forget all the bickering and price bitching. I'll miss that. Bottom line is.... this is intended to improve the classifieds. Yes it's different. Yes, there are and were problems. Yes it takes some getting used to, most change does. Will it be better? I don't know yet, probably, but this is from a mod view point. Time will tell Link to comment
Bradinnes
Change is the one constant in the universe. You can't avoid it. Changing something just for a change is not cool. I work in a whole industry that perpetuates change just for the sake of change and to not make things better. However, I believe this classified section was intended to make things better and I agree with that. So lets give it a shot and send any issues to the mods who can hopefully get the bugs out and make it even better. Thank you to everyone behind the scenes trying to make Ratsun a better place. Cheers!! Link to comment
EricJB
HaHa I'm so stupid, I've been trying to figure out why everyone stopped selling stuff. I didn't look up til today. One thing that comes to mind, if you put something up, make sure you have room in your PM box, or no one will be able to contact you. 1 Link to comment
INDY510
How about a WARNING in the "old" classified section ..... so it doesn't look like everyone stopped Datsuning for however many weeks those few ads will get all the views I really hope EVERYONE in the world see's this thread ..... .. because alot of people ONLY look in the classifieds or maybe project Datto The new classifieds might take years to reach as many people as the old format .... ..... it's worse than the510realm right now ... 4 Link to comment

king bee66
thats funny, i couldnt figure out why my 2 day old post was still at the top of the for sale section. not that i was going to complain, it would have just been very unusual for this site. it all makes sense now. :P Link to comment
AutoArt
No more....Noobs with first post trying to get rid of their 'shit' I have an ad up in the old classifieds, been trying to trade my disassembled Z for a truck. My post count is like 7 or 8. Some might think I just joined, and I'm trying to get rid of my shit. I've been lurking here for a long time, I've spent countless hours browsing through build threads, getting ideas for how I do and don't want to fix up my Datsuns... There are some in particular that I check almost daily, waiting for updates. I've spent countless hours browsing through the classifieds, if there's a crosslisting on c'list I usually just call the phone number directly, don't want to clutter up the thread with questions if I'm not in a position to buy. I haven't really had much to add to the conversations, so I tend to just lurk and keep my mouth shut. Didn't want to be one of those people who just comment on price, or say my friend used to have one GLWS... or will this fit on my that... I get ideas, but I look stuff up, too. This site is an awesome resource, and I really appreciate the people here. I'll probably be here as long as I love Datsuns, which is to say forever. My username is Auto Art (soon to change to Otto Ott) because I plan to do custom art for cars, specifically Datsuns. Point is, I'm not really a noob, and I'm not gonna disappear as soon as I trade or sell my Z. Now I can't reply directly to offers on my Z though, and I can't make offers on other people's trucks in the old classified section that I had my eye on/had been negotiating for. I thought "well, I guess I'll have to make a new ad in the new classifieds"---- NOPE!!! Apparently now I need to make 25 posts first? I guess I understand the motivation, and I love Ratsun, so I'll deal with it. I haven't even listed my Z on c'list because I want her to go to a Ratsuner, someone who will love her and breathe new life into her. So I guess I'll go around finding stuff to say until I hit 25 posts? Also I, too, liked the old format better- even though I didn't USE the ability to comment/ask questions directly to an ad, I liked having the option, and I liked reading other peoples' questions and comments. Again, I understand the motivation and that it was a pain to keep clean and tidy, so if this is the way it is I'll deal with it... ...but I'm adding my vote to the "do not like" column. 1 Link to comment
AutoArt
Also, it does seem like the 25-post rule might have unintended consequences... Like an increase in gratuitous posting? ...I think I'm at 10 now... Link to comment
datsunaholic
I for one am glad the classifieds DON'T show up in the "View New Content" tab. I can't count how many times I've typed in a response before noticing which board it was in, having violated the classified ad posting rules. Well, didn't get banned at least, though most of the time I caught myself and simply didn't post. I do like the time limit, though I think it's a little short. Back when I ran the old NWDE board, I manually locked classified posts after 3 months and deleted after 6. It was pretty easy with that software, as I could sort by last activity and just select them and delete. It cut way down on the zombie resurrection "still got that (4 years later)?" threads. Looks like it's more difficult (if not impossible) for sellers to "bump" their ads to the top, except the mods who appear to have done it by altering the time and/or making it a "featured" ad.. Nice little moderator power abuse going there I see. The bad part is, instead of bumping you're gonna see folks post the same ad every day to keep it at the top. Link to comment
BenJammin
New format is efficient like a robot, to the point and no bs, however... Old format was personable as long as you didn't have somebody bitching about another's price ..."guess I forgot the rule about running the price thru the other members first" lol The positive point to the old format was sometimes along with the bad, you learned a lot via even somewhat ot discussions about the parts that were being sold, good cross references, encouragement about something you were working on, etc... I know those elements are part of the other threads in the forum, but a marketplace is a hub of social and economic matters ! Dunno what's 'better' in the long run. Link to comment
RedBanner
Yeah whats up.with the time differences, features, and should I just try and sell an open skyline hotwheel for 100$ and check out the process my self. Link to comment
Laecaon
I just want the classified integrated back into the forum, but with the plugin that can never happen. Before it was seamless, now its like going to ebay. Someone really wanted to change it, as it cost a whole $35 for the plugin. I would have rather had another mod or 2 to help out with the load of new members, especially with what seems like a decrease in mod participation over the years. I have never been to another forum that uses this system, while I believe they are out there, it must not be favorable. Yay we can be different than other forums! bleh Can we change the color of the donator logo? Maybe Light Blue to match the rest of the forum... What is a featured ad? How do I make my ad featured? How do I add more time, like the one that has 30 days...? Its great to see the mods talking to each other, just look who didnt get the memo in the old classifieds! This place if feeling more like a oligarchy now. Dont get me wrong, I like the format, I like the requirements. I abhor the lack of integration. Link to comment
ArchetypeDatsun
After looking at the new classified I gotta agree with others I see it be useful to a point but old format was a great reference for all of us buying and selling. Yeah we have had some bad experiences but those are to learn from, if there is a way for it to come in the middle for everyone then I can see it work. Link to comment
