Eagle_Adam
I'm putting an L20 back together, and just noticed this: I'm curious how to replace it if I can and if I can't what's the best course of action? Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Is this the engine that lost compression? Looks like the chain was rubbing on it.. ought not to be. Quote Link to comment
darrel
friction fit. I am sure they are available, just not sure where. Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
No this is the new block micro.... So I can use vice grips to remove it? And hammer in a new one? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
#13081-21000 L16s and L18s had them but not the L20Bs. Enough oil sprays out the chain tensioner and down from the cam to do the job so they were discontinued. Quote Link to comment
darrel
My l20b has it. '79 620 kc. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I can't find it listed on any L20B parts. Correction I gave up too soon. Can't find it listed on the 620 but The '80 720 L20B and the later the Z22 and Z24 has a chain oiler. So does the Z20E in the S110. The A10 and S10. So must admit it's likely to be on all L and Z series motors. Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
All three of the L20b blocks I've torn down had em. :) So, my question now is.... How do I go about removing the damaged one? And if I can't would the best course of action be to cut off the existing one to prevent failure in the future? Quote Link to comment
JacksonElanao
Enough oil i think you must simply just famig out the sequence tensioner and down from the cam to do the job so that they might be easily revocated . . .. banzai510(hainz)
chain oiler 13081-21000 dealer or nissanparts.cc enter in black up in corner Quote Link to comment
darrel
friction fit. I am sure they are available, just not sure where. ..... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Pull one from an old block. I read somewhere that they can be removed and the hole plugged... I've looked but can't find it. Quote Link to comment
EricJB
It's probably in there pretty tight. If not it would get pushed out by the oil pressure. You may have to heat things up a bit. Quote Link to comment
izzo
Your pic is gone but if its what I am thinking, I was able to remove mine with just a pair of needle nose pliers. Kinda twisted, up down motion, and it slid out.. Put it back in with light taps of a hammer Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
i took a vice grip to it, no luck........ am i gunna hurt anything leaving it the way it is? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The oil spray is directed to the side? on this? If it breaks off later won't it just spray out forward onto the timing cover? Easy out? Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
If you've damaged it further by trying to remove it then I would definitely take it out. If you really can't get it out then cut it off and EZ out it or drill it out a little at a time and then use the EZ out. Or you could smack it side to side (gently) and then try. A new one wil hammer in, but if it goes in too easily, peen around it with a center punch. Make sure the new one is clocked properly. Quote Link to comment
Z-train
My l20b has it. '79 620 kc. None of mine do. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Bill, do you mean the 6 cylinders??? I remember reading something about missing oiler pegs. Maybe on the later L28s??? Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
long story short i left it, the only other option was to cut it off and take an easy out to it........ just plain not happening Quote Link to comment
darrel
I don't recall having that in any of the z car engine blocks. You just need patience to get the oiler out. Quote Link to comment
