dreadsiren
ok, heres the deal, I have an 82-86 frankenstien nissan datsun 720... lots of swaps/parts... long story, anyway, we were getting less and less clutch, bled it out, adjusted it out... finaly burnt the clutch out on a pass :( replaced clutch plate and pilot bearing, had my uncle (cert.mechanic) help just to make sure I got it right... well, it wont shift, bled the hell out of it, slave actutuates fine, petal feels ok... no crazy noise from throw out bearing, shifts with motor off but still wont shift running (can speed shift from 2 to 3 most of the time or 3 to 4 etc... when I am lucky) but I am going nutz over here! I am at a loss as I was thinking it was the master or slave but it is actuating just fine... bled and bled and bled some more but still nothing, oh, its a 4x4 5 speed, front end disconnected due to bad bearing sleeve to cv shaft needle bearing issue... I did notice bad wear on the slip yoke on the driveline... is this a tranny issue? or am I missing something clutch wise? if it is tranny what parts am I looking at?? went to rockauto and there are 5 differant bearings *pulls hair out* I'm a motor junky... trans are not my shiney point... speccs 83 z24 2.5 motor 82 body unknown 5 speed tranny (86 or 82) master 82, slave ? p.s. pardon gramar issues as it is quite late :) Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Measure the distance the slave push rod moves. Should be 1.18" or close. It may be moving but not enough. The clutch pedal should have about 1/16" of play. You say you replaced the clutch plate? Do you mean the friction disc? The clutch assy is made up of a disc and a pressure plate and should both be replaced. Quote Link to comment
kelowg
Maybe friction disc installed backward? Springs might be up against flywheel or press plate. Might need lnger slave pushrod Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I've looked at many Datsun discs and I don't think you could make that mistake. The disc spline sticks out too far and would hold the disc too far away from the crank you wouldn't be able to get the pressure plate bolts started. If the pressure plate wasn't changed it's probably toast. Quote Link to comment
dreadsiren
looks like I re drop the trans :( broke as all get out so I pulled the friction disk and pressure plate off my old motor since they were still somewhat good... your answer made me recheck my old parts, I somehow got the plates switched and put the old pressure plate back on! (why I dont usualy let my unc help, lol) gawd I'm glad your here, you are truley king rat :) *gawd I shouldnt post at 3am, I called a 2.4 a 2.5 and a friction disk a clutch disk, lol* Quote Link to comment
