rikd
I recently helped out a friend who was having problems with a Cali model still needing smog junk. It has an upgrade dist. and a rebuilt Hitachi carb. I found that the exhaust manifold had been milled because of a previous leak. So I tried to match the intake and exhaust manifold height to the shared stud to give it even pressure. After looking at several parts stores I was unable to find the rectangel port gasket and was told it was no longer made. I decided to install the round port gasket, because technecally it did cover the surface for a seal. My luck #1 exhaust leaked. My question is should I look for a round port or find the original because napa has a rebuild 3yr warranty round port that sounds good in a few years. Also I came across a 78 truck at the wrecking yard with disc brakesmbut noticed slight differences in the arms. Would it be a good idea to swap the brakes? Quote Link to comment
Dat Lurka
The brakes don't interchange. Easier to do one of the front disc mods. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/25124-hardbody-disc-brake-brackets-for-620521520320/ Use the search bar. Look for disc conversion. I definitely preferred my 78 with disc over 77. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
L20Bs up to and including '77 used a square port combination intake/exhaust gasket. The Nissan part number is #14035-W5300 only $20. Take that number to NAPA and have them cross reference it. The problem with milling the '77 and earlier exhaust is that the intake/exhaust is bolted together under the carb. Anything taken off the one has to be taken off the other or one will be higher. BTW all California vehicles came with the 'upgraded' ignition. Quote Link to comment
