SR20DETdatsun510
I've looked and can't find anything on this. I have an S14 SR20 and I am trying to transition from the inlet barb on the fuel rail to SS Earls braided hose. It seems that a house clamp does not clamp hard enough. I can still twist the line when fully tightened. Is there a fitting that mates these two together? What are my other options that will allow me to use the SS braided fuel hose? Could I cut off the barb and flare it on the end and use a -6 AN Tube Nut? Any other ideas? Thanks Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
cut off the barb and flare it on the end and use a -6 AN Tube Nut? that ^^^ sounds like the solution to me :D Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
What about a compression fitting? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EAR-165056ERL Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
ive never used then in an AN fitting but i did try one in a break line application and i hated it........ i just ran a new hardline and flared it Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
I've been reading that the Compression fittings are good for pressures up past 500psi... Why didn't you like them? Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
the way they came together was "odd" IMO, the seal wasnt good either.... BUT! mine wasnt $10 :P Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
Ya, don't want to cheap out when it comes to Fuel and Brake fittings! I'll try that first before I try and flare the inlet. If all else fails, maybe I will cut the whole inlet off all the way to the other side of the rail and have a fitting welded onto it... sycloned916
Those Earl fittings work ok but the fuel line is steel its kinda hard for the brass to compress to it. But I've done it before. Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
Thanks for all the help guys. Seems like there are a few things I can try then... I'll let you know how it goes.... B) Quote Link to comment

Stoffregen Motorsports
What type of fitting is it stock? Show me a pic and I can find you a fitting to braided hose. Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
Here is the stock s14 fuel rail inlet barb. I still have to measure the diameter but I think it is 3/8". I will have to cut the barb off and do a compression fitting or flare it. I can also cut the whole inlet off all the way to the end of the fuel rail and have a -6 male bung welded onto the end of it... Quote Link to comment
510T
Nissan fuel line is 5/16", is the braided line you're using -6? If so that might be the reason it is not clamping well. Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
Yes, -6an hose. It fits perfect over the Barb with a firm push. It is just that the stiff Stainless Braided line won't compress. I mean the SS hose is Nylon reinforce and double Stainless Braided reinforced. No wonder it won't clamp down! Hahaha Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
I use these whenever I can. They are a push-lock to -6 AN adapter. The Russell Performance part numbers are 640863 and 640853 for 3/8 and 5/16 respectively. They slip over the hard line and snap in place. Quote Link to comment
Davec
stock fuel lines are 5/16" Quote Link to comment

I just ordered some Earls Compression fittings. They are good up to 50 psi. Which I don't think is a huge problem but I don't like using stuff to the edge of it's performance. How much do these Quick Connect fittings handle? And Pics are worth 1000 words! Thanks! Quote Link to comment
510T
You will exceed 50 psi. Fuel pressure starts at like 43psi and should raise 1psi per pound of boost I believe. Quote Link to comment

I tried looking but it does not say what these Push On fittings will handle... You think the Earls Compression Fittings, although they say 50psi Max, are rated low for liability reasons? Can I use the compression fittings on my tank? I have a Walbro 255 feeder and a Bosch 044 to the fuel rail. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
I would bet the push-lock is rated to 300psi, like most other fittings. I'm not a huge fan of compression fittings on a fuel system. Usually if you look hard enough, there is a fitting for whatever you're trying to accomplish. For specialty fittings, I look here https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/advcat.asp?CategoryID=PLUMBING Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
Sounds like what I need then. So I went and ordered 3 of them. Dang, at $15 a pop, I am glad I only need 3. :o Anyone wanna buy some 5/16" -6AN compression fittings? Hahaha :P I'll just send them back and eat the $9 handling fee... Thanks guys for everything. So all I have to do is cut off the barbed hump and push these on huh? Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
No, they slip on and catch the barb. Quote Link to comment
SR20DETdatsun510
What if it doesn't have a barb? The one on my fuel rail looks like it was already cut off.... Quote Link to comment
