What did you do to your 720 today?

Recommended Posts

I feel like this would be a cool little thread and get some movement in this section of the forum. Rules just post what mods/work you have done to your truck the day that you did it. Enjoy and keep trucking!

What kind of paint did you use on the seats?  I've always wondered if painting the fabric made it too stiff... are you happy with the result you got?

I used Simply Spray brand Fabric Spray. 1 can per seat...could have used another can. Results are pretty good..the fabric stays suptle and soft. I have yet to install them back in the truck, so I'm not sure if it will rub off yet. Stuff is available on eBay. I got mine at Hobby Lobby.

Got rid of the old non functioning  Sears and Roebuck, (talk about OLD!) cassette player today and made a delete panel out of some galvanized steel left over from a roof repair on my house. (it was rusted metal with peeling chrome, I got bored and painted it one day)

Why in the hell the previous owner hacked up the dash like this I will never know! The damn radio didn't sit well there either. No mounting brackets or anything, it was always falling out! Besides the fact there are TWO PLACES in the console where a radio is SUPPOSED to go! I tried to sand and trim the hole, but didn't make much difference...

Plate in, didn't like the rough, unfinished metal.

Took plate out and painted flat black. Looks much better IMO. Also cleaned up the dash, had a thick dusting of pollen. And applied some armor all.

Eventually I am going to install a more modern audio system with CD and an aux input for my iPod, I can modify this to use as a mounting plate for it.

A few days ago, I finished installing my new Weber 32/36 with a Mr. Gasket Fuel Pressure Regulator. :D

Today I put in a new set of Plug wires, new Battery, washed it down a bit and buffed the front bumper and took it for a drive up White Pass to see the power difference over the stock carb. One word, Wow. Before the weber, it felt like it had about 400 pounds of weight in the back. Now it climbs right up without even having to push it hard. It was a good test to see how well it did at higher elevation as Packwood sits at about 1100 ft and highest point on White Pass is 4500 ft.

Well, it was running like crap this morning, so checked it out and found out one of the garbage Xact plug wires the previous owner had used had come apart from the boot. Another was loose. Damn cheap auto parts! Checked the plugs, they are OK, but look old and burnt. May as well replace them too. Go to Advance Auto where my neighbor works to get some NGK plugs and wires, got the plugs, wires had to be ordered, will be here Friday. Good thing I have a third car!

Figured I may as well replace this while I was at it. Preheater hose is trashed!

New preheater hose on.

Plugs and wires on. NGK wires are FANCY!

IMG_20130426_165146_zpsf49013bd.jpg?t=13

NGK G-power plugs... YEAH G! G-power, put a cap in yo ass!

Also tuned and adjusted my carb. It was stalling and running rough at idle for a long time.

Now I just have to figure out WTF is up with my speedometer and odometer not working...

EDIT:Saturday, April 27 found the problem this afternoon. Slid out the cluster to check the speedo cable. Looked OK, until I disconnected it! The cable was broken about 8 inches from the speedometer. Guess I am going to Advance Auto again to get another one. And I figured while I had everything out I may as well clean up back there. Looks like the seal on the cable at the transmission is worn out. There is gear oil everywhere... SMELLS DISGUSTING! Cleaned it all up, Washed the gauge cluster trim panels and lenses in the sink with some Dawn, Waxed the outer lenses, Shiny...looks like NEW!

Finally picked up the correct grill. I also did new V-belts and about to do brakes when i get back from leave and I need to pic of a Mr. gasket fuel pressure reg like the one above I think I am having Fuel pressure issues.

Ill assume you meant to say Need to PICK UP a fuel pressure...But here is a pic of the one ive got for a Weber 32/36. I put the radiator cap next to it for some size comparison. It feels/looks like a nice heavy duty one, not a cheapo. I got it from my local parts store for about 36 bucks with some different size hose fittings and about a 18 inch length of hose included. Adjustable from .5-5.5 PSI.
