S13Bubba
Semi-new to this forum thanks to a friend showing me a few posts that he has used on his wagon and other projects. I've read this entire thread for personal reasons not pertaining to a legit Datsun and am truly impressed with some of the info that I've come across. You guys have helped me understand Nissan's ass-backwards approach to wiring and hopefully I can use some of this info when I dive into the wiring on my S13 here in the near future. I kind of want to find me a little Datsun pickup and toss one of my spare KA's into it as a daily now. 1 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Ass backwards? Shit. It's the most straightforward wiring there is excluding 1970s Chevy! 1 Quote Link to comment
S13Bubba
I'm not used to things being triggered by grounds so it's all pretty ass-backwards to me. I'm learning though. 1 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
....what???!? Ground switching has been around since... the discovery of electricity. Or, do you mean you didn't know that's how it worked? 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
As in switching on the power side, not the ground side. I found it just as odd when I first started this stuff. I just hadn't ever thought about doing it that way, so ground switching seemed really odd. 2 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Ground switching is a lot safer. Less hots run everywhere.I had my jeep set up this way, everything I ran to a switch on the dash had no hot wires. 2 Quote Link to comment
S13Bubba
Exactly, I'm not used to the Ground switching. I started the whole issue chasing hot wires when I should have been chasing grounds instead. I'm getting the hang of it slowly but surely now. 2 Quote Link to comment
lonwlf
Is the wiring and ecu from a 97 Pathfinder use able for a VG swap? I haven't found anything besides guys doing the swap with car harnesses. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
97 puts you in obd2. Difficulty goes up significantly as the computer is much more sophisticated and scans more sensors. That's why guys use the Z car stuff. Plus the truck/suv engine harness is integrated into the body harness, requiring major work to separate the two. The cars have the two harnesses already built separately. 1 Quote Link to comment
lonwlf
Okay that's what I was wondering.I guess now it's time to find a car to get the wiring and sensors off. 1 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Okay that's what I was wondering.I guess now it's time to find a car to get the wiring and sensors off. Or get a S13 singel cam KA24E -or- a Frontier/Xterra KA24DE and and go carb'd  1 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Why would you use KA wiring for a VG? :fu:  2 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
....Why would anyone want a heavy VG for +10HP over a KA? KA FTW. Keep it simple, stupid! 2 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
For the 202 ft lbs of torque a vg33 puts down! 3 Quote Link to comment
lonwlf
It's going in my son's 620.I wouldn't mess with a KA swap in this truck. He needs more power to turn 36" tires than a KA puts down. Its not for a standard Datsun swap . 2 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
I have a KC 620 with 35"s and a single cam KA and can wheel all day and head home at 70 on the freeway no problem. That said, more torque is never a bad thing. 2 Quote Link to comment

Datsun5280
What harness are you using? D21, s14, what? S14 harness and Ecu. Going into a 79 620 1 Quote Link to comment
mhub91
S14 harness and Ecu. Going into a 79 620 You should use S13 intake with S13 harness and ECU. Basically converting it to OBD1. It will be easier, in my opinion. 2 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Page 1 explains why s14 is the hardest 240sx harness use. It also gives the wiring diagram for that harness. Consult that diagram, the ask pointed questions about specific confusion. 1 Quote Link to comment
