IneedHelp
1980 510 wagon, starts up and runs as long as you keep your foot on the pedal. It was running fine this morning, and as the day went on it started shaking on idle. Now it wont idle at all. It drops rpm and dies. Hoping its not the fuel pump but dont know. any solutions? IneedHelp
the engine has a new carb, and i dont see any lose wires. Is there a way to tell for sure if its the fuel pump, or sending unit? Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Is there a way to tell for sure if its the fuel pump???????? pull the put put side of the hose. and have soembody hit the key and the gas should shoot out. Pretty simple. if it runs at higher RPM it cant be the fuel pump. at idle it baerly uses any gas. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
New carb, old crap in the fuel lines, instant plugged jets. That's exactly what it sounds like. If it were the fuel pump it wouldn't run ABOVE idle. Sometimes swapping carbs, with old hoses, the hoses have deteriorated and the act of pulling off and reinstalling them ends up with bits of the hose coming loose and ending up in the carb. Happens when changing filters too. Gotta inspect the hoses... any black residue, the hoses are breaking down (alcohol eats the rubber after a while). Quote Link to comment
