81sunnyson
has anyone here attempted this? using a 99 sentra motor with a modified dogleg http://www.britishv8.org/Other/NormanRest-Sprite.htm Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Which 99 Sentra motor? SR20DE or GA16DE? Nissan made a RWD transmission for the GA16DE. Quote Link to comment
81sunnyson
a 1.6L GA16DE here (and a QG18DE too). Both match up to theDatsun 1200/B210 transmission pattern. Some of the GA16DE engines had an engine side starter and some had atransmission side starter. Their matching flywheels will either have thering gear teeth on the engine or the transmission side. You want aflywheel build for a starter on the engine side (like the 1200/B210).The GA16DE were in the Sentras here in the US from 1991-99. Pick onewith the starter on the engine side and you will have the rightflywheel. If you use a flywheel from the 2000-06 QG18DE, it will have theflywheel ring gear in the correct facing direction. As for the extra length of the input shaft, you can shorten it or useseveral of the spacers that go between the A14/15 and the transmission.Peter Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
GA engine doesn't match the 1200/B210 transmission bolt pattern. Two or three of the bolts do not match. But yes, several 1200 owners have done this. 116 HP stock!! Quote Link to comment
81sunnyson
i would rather go this route and keep my dogleg versus the ka route does anyone make itb and fuel rails for the sentra? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
For the Sentra? If you mean the GA16DE engine, it already has ITBs (Individual Throttle Bores) and a fuel rail. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
How ya gonna get the water lines to the correct position? How about the dizzy being on the wrong side of the motor? Fuel lines will be easy enough to hook up, but the throttle body will be facing the firewall. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Most guys when fitting it to a Datsun, cut a hole in the firewall to let the distributor through. And cut-n-shut the manifold to reverse the ends. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
KA seems like so much less effort for more motor. But that's just my thought. And a KA looks so at home in a 210. For less work, you can make a 200sx dogleg fit. If set on a GA, make it happen. Be the pioneer, for Ratsun's sake. Quote Link to comment

flatcat19
http://community.ratsun.net/topic/39170-a14-valve-springs-for-stock-rebuild/ Fine and dandy-but he hasn't started. Beat him to the punch! Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
ka and dogleg? i open to it which involves less cutting? If you can turn a wrench, WAY less cutting! Sourcing an A10 crossmember will make things even way easier. Quote Link to comment
81sunnyson
tell me more im reading that the ga heads are prone to cracking Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
KA require NO cutting to go into a 210. To fit into a B210 the crossmember is a problem (same as a 510 crossmember) and the usual solution is a cut-n-flip. Use the search box to find out information and photos of KA swaps. 81sunnyson
t25 garett with ga 250whp.... ok before i get carried away, how much power can the dogleg handle? Quote Link to comment
81sunnyson
found and old import tuner mag...92 240 122hp/ 116 tq baseline @ wheels AEM intake, 5Zigen border 3 exhaust, DC sports 4-2-1 ceramic header 137hp/132tq @ wheels Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Transmissions are not rated for power. The dogleg depends on which dogleg you mean (there are at least five Datsun dogleg transmissions). For the FSW63A (A-series or L-series), it can safely, long-term reliably handle about 110 ft-lbs or torque. So it will handle a stock GA16DE, but not a supercharged or turbocharged one. Not long-term reliably at least. It might last for a while. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
That mag confirms that a modified GA16DE can make the same power as a stock KA24DE. Do you want reliable stock HP that will last 150,000 miles -- or a highly modified engine? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
ka and dogleg? i open to it which involves less cutting? A US '80- A10 (HL510) 5 speed dogleg is designed to fit the NAPS Z20 engine. The Z series motors have the exact same bolt pattern and orientation as the KA series engines. The problem is the KA will eat the dogleg for breakfast. The dogleg is a fine transmission but really only adequate for a 2 liter motor like the L20B. The KA makes over 50% more HP and at least 1/3 more torque. A better choice would be a 71-B 5 speed from a 720 NAPS engine truck. The best choice would be the 71-C 5 speeds that came with the KA motors to begin with. Quote Link to comment
81sunnyson
so ka with its originally equiped trans.....which rear axle and driveshaft? megasquirt is my only ecu option? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Search my friend. It's all been discussed many times. Even the B310 (210) KA-swap has been done many times here on Ratsun. If you use the original KA trans you will have to cut the shifter hole as it's about 4 inches further back. Best to use the 720 shorty transmission for a B210 or B310 swap. Search. Dime Dave
... Nissan made a RWD transmission for the GA16DE. GG, What was the application and where can one of these be sourced? Quote Link to comment
81sunnyson
this summer i attempted a ford 302 and t5 mock up in my parts car with a mustang rear axle. the lower suspension link mounts line up to the axle but the top would need modification or really long bolts and least 5 inch spacer. ( dangerous and probably wouldnt last) tunnel and firewall was hacked alot but tried to cut one solid piece. i cut the trans tunnel just to where the support mount bracing is and that worked. as for the firewall had issue with where the accelerator pump mount is. would need inch or inch and half to clear bell housing and the pedal would need to be slightly relocated the t5 ended up having the shifter dead on with the tip of the ebrake, and that was with the back of the 302 motor siting almost flush with firewall had stock gt shorty headers that cleared the steering box and idler arm but collectors on down would be hard...didnt get that far but had to abort. due to storage fees working in a 10 x 15 unit, which was snug with car, motor, lift stand and work bench on sawhorses i also attempted a ford 2.3 and c3 auto trans which worked....trans fit tunnel ok but the engine has a tall deck so the hood would need a scoop of some sort or i would need to add a cross member spacer between the frame but then suspension geometry would be altered Quote Link to comment
