mtngoat
Hi Folks, well the original H190 in the 'goon is making louder and worse noises than ever, and some vibration has begun..not a good sign. (It is not the driveline or joints, I checked then closely when I swapped transmixers last weekend) I placed a backorder at Nissan but now I'm up against it. I have a very fresh H190 from a low miles 720, but I need the side gears to match the wagon axles. I refuse to put gears from a vibrating howling diff with 350k+ miles on it, into a fresh unit. If anyone has a set of these in good condition I could sure use them, I'm getting the distinct feeling that my diff now has one foot firmly in the grave and the other one is sliding in. (Also looking for an otherwise busted FS5W71b with the 0.745 5th so I can cannibalize it for the 5th gear set, or the loose parts to make a hybrid truck unit with the super tall 5th) Link to comment
Silky_Johnson
I've gotta solid goon H190 diff. It's dirty on the outside, but it was working awesome when pulled. It has the 3.9 gears, and I just wanted to swap down to a 3.7 from a Roadster. If you want a 3.9, I would just swap in the whole pumpkin rather than mess around with side gears, but maybe you're partial to the 720 pumpkin? PM me if you're interested. I'm in the Portland area. mtngoat
Silky set me up tonite for a very good price. We did some Datsun talk and then I was on my way to my homeward bound 90 mile odyssey when the trans got stuck in 5 th halfway home. That's another tale told in drivetrain forum under WTF!! Made it back somehow, looks like another weekend under the car, both ends this time! Link to comment

mtngoat
Most likely. It has orange rtv at the seam in the middle and had pretty clean oil in it when I got it. The bung had a light fur on the magnet, no chunks, and the box shifted very positively and smoothly. Im thinking it was worked on, it was ok, and three hours of some pretty harsh vibration took something apart Link to comment
wayno
I always say that our datsuns talk to us, and when we don't listen, we have to be towed home, but when we do listen, we always make it home, except for the dogleg 5 speed, that transmission is the exception, it will just lock up without warning. Sounds like yours was screaming at you for a while, and if you left your house with it vibrating, your lucky you made it. Since it is likely that you lost a dowel pin out of a shifting fork, unless the shift lever itself is broken, I would be suspect of the whole transmission, you need to check everything, you don't want it to happen again, and if there was a lot of "orange RTV" at the seam, I would say it was not a professional rebuild, as only takes a thin film to do the job, fact is I don't use it at all, and mine have never leaked. I would replace the rear seal in the transmission for sure, as it likely took a beating, and let's hope you have fluid it the tranny, as it could have all leaked out from the vibration during your parts run, and you will likely know if that happened when you get under the car, as everything from the rear of the tranny back will be soaked with gear oil. The thing is, if you have a lot of noise/vibration coming from the rearend, you can't hear/feel when other stuff is going bad. Link to comment
