ANY ideas? Is the choke working? Is the engine cold, or did it get warmed up at an idle? Is the fuel cut off solenoid wired up? Quote Link to comment
.sunlover
What was this Webber off of, or was it set up new for you? Did you have good fuel pressure before the carb swap? Do you now? Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
1) Did it run before the Weber? 2) The carb new? Used? That makes a difference... 3) Did you change ANYTHING ELSE other than add the Weber? Always, always, make ONE CHANGE at a time. Otherwise you have to put everything back the way it was, or start swapping parts out. If Used could be the jets are all gummed up, or there's debris in the bowl blocking the jets, or the inlet strainer is full of crap, etc etc. If new, might not be installed correctly. If you answer #3 with "yes" then list them, because that could be the problem. Quote Link to comment
thestrangebro
the weber is brand new, opend it yesterday. chokes working, engine is cold. no clue on the fuel cut off. but is squirting gas when pulling the throttle. it ran before with the hitachi but extremely rich and when i rebuilt the old carb and put it back on it would not run at all lol. the head was fully rebuilt. new timing chain as well. i didnt change anything. i hope i responded to all the questions haha Quote Link to comment
.sunlover
Did you buy it set up for your Datsun? I'm assuming you don't have the fuel shutoff? What did you do with the wire leads for it? Shouldn't keep it from running, but why not hook up the advance? Quote Link to comment
thestrangebro
Yeah i bought the whole kit. i have the wire leads just sitting without metal to metal contact. My bad i worded that wrong, all lines are plugged except the advance. the advance is hooked up Quote Link to comment
.sunlover
I never had a shutoff, so without knowing if it will work, I'd cross the wires and try it again. Maybe its shut off when the circuits open. Quote Link to comment
.sunlover
Ya, I saw that, made me think he checked it in the off position, that made me think if the circuit was running current through it might be what let's the fuel flow. Idk though. Quote Link to comment
yello620
Has this motor run with the Hitachi since the head was rebuilt? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The wires need to have 12V or it won't idle. Quote Link to comment
kelowg
Sounds like it flooded. Mine loads up so bad i have to start it with 1/4 gas pedal. Until it clears out, then runs ok at fast idel til it warms up. Quote Link to comment
thestrangebro
it had an electric choke before, now its a wire choke. and yes the engine ran after a head rebuild but barely for that the hitachi was straight poop Quote Link to comment
thestrangebro
what do i do with the wires now there isnt a place to plug them in at? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
thestrangebro> its a wire choke What does that mean? If the choke has a single electrical wire, connect it to 12V. Quote Link to comment
thestrangebro
lol a "manual" choke. no electrical at all Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
OK, so manual choke has no wires to connect. When you pull the choke knob on the dashboard all the way out, ensure that the choke is closing 100%. Even if open a little bit it may not start. Then when you crank the engine and as soon as it catches, push the choke knob in a little bit. Quote Link to comment
thestrangebro
Ill try again. i think i flooded it extremely bad. i pulled the dip stick and it smelled of gas.. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
It should only take 1 pump of gas if the engine is cold. If the engine is warm: * Pull choke knob out a little bit * hold pedal down about 1/2 way when starting (do not pump it) 1 Quote Link to comment
thestrangebro
so i took out the spark plugs and cranked it a little to help get the gas and fumes out. what else should i do if its this flooded? i think it got this bad when i was hooking up the throttle cable. (tugging it not thinking) Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
a 75 has a 12volt wire over there find it with a volt meter with Key ON. SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote Link to comment
Sealik
so i took out the spark plugs and cranked it a little to help get the gas and fumes out. what else should i do if its this flooded? Clean and dry off plugs...confirm they are gapped correctly Might want to change the oil after you get it running Quote Link to comment
thestrangebro
i cleaned them and they are gaped right. i literally cant figure this shit out. 2 straight days of this bs Quote Link to comment
thestrangebro
its not an electric choke> banzai510. there is not a place to plug these wires into the carb lol Quote Link to comment
