Kirden
Hey guys, new around here and I'm building up a 74 620 regular cab. I was wondering if anyone 6'+ has found decent seats for the reg cab. Right now don't have too many problems with the buckets that are in it (the look original) but once I lower the truck I can see some issues, Anything that sits a little lower and maybe has a thin back but still has some decent foam, ect should be good. If you guys want you can check out my build thread in the 620 section to see parts of the seats that are in it. I will try to take a pic of the seats only and post them here tomorrow so that you can get a better comparison. Quote Link to comment
Kirden
Antoher strangely idiotic questions, anyone think this would work in a 620? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/vta-672001vhy/overview/ I know its not a great idea... I wouldn't even consider it if I didn't drive my son around a lot. Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
if im right 74's came with bench seats, look into the MRII seats or find a good bench seat to put back in Quote Link to comment
Kirden
I'm pretty sure a bench seat would make it impossible for me to get into the truck. My step dad picks on me because of how close my knees are to the dash in the buckets. I will look into the MR2 seats. Are we talking the 80s MR2s or the early 90s MR2s? I prefer something either without a head rest or with a removeable headrest but as long as the head rest is not built into the seat like some of the racing seats it should be fine. Eventually they will be upholstered over anyway :P Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
80's mr2's have removable head rests. I think 90's have fixed head rests tho. Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
ask converted to datsun!!! he swapped from buckets to a bench in his standard cab and it looks roomier Quote Link to comment

converted_to_datsun
Haha yes the bench gave me more room than the buckets that were in there. I'm only 5' 10" but I fit very comfortably with plenty of room. Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
im 6'2" and i could barely fit with bucket so i switched back to a bench when i first bought my truck Quote Link to comment
Kirden
That is odd, I thought the bench would give me less room. I will try to source both and see which one is better. I honestly like the idea of buckets better but right now it is all about the leg room until I get the surgery to cut myself off at the knees :P Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Haha I've been trying to get my brother to get that surgery for years! He's 6'3" or 4" Quote Link to comment
Kirden
Hah, Sometimes it stinks being tall. I'm a little over 6' but I'm also 250lbs so finding the right seat combo is a must. Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
You should be pretty happy with a bench. They are thinner that most bucket seats and if you get a stock bench it'll bolt in with no modification. My bench came out of a 76 Mazda pickup but it took very little modification to bolt in. Eagle_Adam
Kirden, i can grab you some seat rails and UPS them to you so you can mount any seat if you want Quote Link to comment
Dat Lurka
Stock bench is this and can be slid back against the cab for the most room. Quote Link to comment
Kirden
The closest bench I can find with a quick search is 400 miles away, but they ship. Dropped them an email to see what I'm looking at price wise. If it is the same as the other SYs I'll be looking at $75+ shipping so maybe it won't be too bad. Thanks Eagle_Adam, I'll keep that in mind. Tomorrow I'll post a pick of the seats and one of me in the truck so you guys can laugh. Honestly it isn't hard for me to drive with the buckets, but long trips (3hrs+) might get painful since I was stiff after the hour and a half drive home. I just know that with the stock steering wheel I am going to be in trouble when I drop the truck unless I get more room. I am also going to look at steering wheel options but I want something ratrod-ish, maybe a nardi wooden or an old school leather wrapped one. Quote Link to comment
Dat Lurka
PM Squatch, he knows where some 620s are stashed near Helen. Quote Link to comment
Kirden
Will do, Thanks Dat Lurka. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Beware, if you lower the truck, you will gain more legroom. Quote Link to comment
Kirden
Haha, I don't remember that happening on my B2200. Datsun magic maybe? All I remember is lowring my truck then beaning the hell out of my knee for two weeks straight until I figured out how to get in it :P Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
I don't think lowering it will change the leg room. It'd be all torshon bars. If you did a body drop and cut the floors to lower that would change things but a standard lowering job will leave the cab exactly the same Quote Link to comment
Kirden
I liked the concet though and the idea of moar lowwwrrr! for leg room makes me a happy camper. If only the roads weren't so bad around here I would slam it as low as possible. Alas, I think a 2" drop may be it, at most 3". I used to hit everything in my B2200 and it was only 3.5" with a slight c-notch. Quote Link to comment
Kirden
I have some PMs out about possible bench seats. Again I thank you guys for all the help. Its rough being a big kid in a small truck :P Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Oh that's right i forgot. Lowering the truck has no effect on the seat legroom. Quote Link to comment
Kirden
Lol, if only it did. Then dropping the frame would = 620 limo mode. Quote Link to comment
