Thorpeado
Hey guys, I just got my L20b back from the machine shop and was installing the timing chain inspection cover, and the stud in the head stripped after very little pressure. Does anybody know if this stud is pressed in or is it a threaded stud. Any ideas on the best way to remove it and replace it. thanks any help is appreciated Quote Link to comment
wayno
Are you talking about the oval hole in the front of the head that has 3 10mm bolts holding on the cover? Quote Link to comment
Thorpeado
yeah thats the one, there are two bolts and one stud with treads on the end that hold that plate on, what Im wondering is if that stud is pressed in or if its threaded on both ends and actually screws into the stud. DanielC
It is threaded in. Quote Link to comment
wayno
Just grab it with a pair of vice grips and carefully take it out like it is a bolt. If it broke off flush, just put some silicone on the gasket and just use the two bolts left, I have seen lots of these plates with only 2 bolts holding it on, and they did not leak. Thorpeado
Thanks for the help guys I figured it was threaded in but after one attempted try with vice grips and it shearing off with only a little bit of stud left to grip I figured I'd consult the ratsun community. On the second try I tapped the end with a hammer lightly and was able to back it out after that and replace it. Just got the motor fired up for the first time tonight and it runs like a champ. Pictures of the truck soon to come. Quote Link to comment
