datzenmike
There were 3 kinds, I assume an L series for a 510? Link to comment
ggzilla
510s came with 5-speeds? For which dogleg transmission do you need the front case? None of the doglegs have a removable bell housing. Link to comment
datzenmike
There were 3 kinds, I assume an L series for a 510? I said for, not from. :) Bolt pattern for a Z series NAPS motor Bolt pattern for an L series motor David it giving you the gears. The dogleg has a front and rear aluminum case sandwiching a steel adapter plate that holds all the gears. The bell housing is integral with the front case. I believe you were asking about the long dogleg? You can see the tail is much longer. . Link to comment
Brock510
I have a naps z and also another z trans that can't remember at the moment. I remember reading that u could swap the front cases from dogleg to naps z Link to comment
Brock510
And I know the main way to tell a naps z is by the 7 bolts on the inside of bell housing the seven bolts by the input shaft Link to comment

datzenmike
The term NAPS is a style of pollution control used on several motors but generally people call any Z series motor a NAPS motor. Z series or NAPS motors have a different alignment or lean, in the engine compartment and thus the bolt pattern is also clocked differently between L and Z series transmissions and thet can't be interchanged. You can remove the front cases and swap them though to convert them. Dogleg transmissions are different from all other 5 speeds and they come in L and Z (NAPS) bolt patterns. The front cases can be swapped but only between an L and Z series transmission. Link to comment
