Lonestar
Doing a reseal of my trans and I found that the gears that in the tail housing are all jacked up. It's a real small gear and a big, does anyone have any trans that they are good for parts or what not? Let me know, thanks guys. Link to comment
datzenmike
If you look there should be three gears all together. That's your reverse gear counter, idler and main gears. The leading edges are likely chipped or burred from grinding it into reverse. Don't sweat it, all reverse gears have some wear because they are not synchromesh. Myself, I wouldn't even worry about them.. maybe if a whole tooth was snapped off but otherwise reverse isn't used that much anyway. Link to comment
620GRX
i have 3 flat bottom 4-spds or is it the oval trans? Link to comment
datzenmike
I assume F4W56A or F4W60 as he has an '80 210. I don't think your F4W63s were ever used on the A series motors. Link to comment
Lonestar
Nope, this is for my 1969 510 Goon. Has a 4spd in it. Really? I'm worried because that little gear is really chewed up. Link to comment
datzenmike
I would never have guessed. :sneaky: If it was a forward gear it would whine. Reverse gears are always 'ground' down slightly. By all means replace it. The way I see it it's for backing out of parking spaces not driving down the road. Link to comment
