Lockleaf
Just consider oic to be forum slang for pic and move on. It is what it is. Quote Link to comment

Big_E-Dog
has anyone regeared the stock h190 to 3.70? Quote Link to comment
Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
Why would you regear it so low? Going to make the car feel wildly underpowered around town, stoplight to stoplight. Quote Link to comment
Rays74
If I remember correctly the wagons were 3:70 unless it was orig an auto trans then 3:90.......my '72 goon is this way. Not buying the "wildly underpowered" part......would depend on motor size and tune AND frame of reference. My warmed over L16 is quite spry around town and I'm not far from his 3:70 question (3:90 in mine). :) Big-E....There are lots of H190 geared Datsuns to pick ratios from, some slot right in others need their side gears swapped to match the wagon's spline count.....search the forum. Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
I thought that all manual Datsun 510 wagons had a 3.90 in them? That's what I have in mine, and it's still the stock rear end. Just read through his profile and he's running a VG turbo in his wagon, I can understand wanting a lower rear end gear, but really you'd want it if you were freeway cruising a lot, more than you're driving it on surface streets. Duncan
I went from 4:10 to 3:90 in my Sunny, and it lost about 600-700 rpm at freeway speed. (a good thing) It was much better around town too. It had no noticeable loss of torque, and I didn't have to shift gears nearly as often in stop and go. The difference he's talking about is very slight, and going to a taller gear (not lower) with a VG motor shouldn't be much of a problem. That little of a ratio change is pretty small, but I liked the results in my vehicle after it was swapped out. Quote Link to comment

But the first gear in the VG trans blows with a 3.90. It's almost useless. It has plenty enough torque to pull 3.55s, or even 3.36s. And you'd barely notice the difference in acceleration. What rear gear is your dad running? Quote Link to comment
Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
He was running an R160 LSD out of an early Subaru.... think it was a 3.7, now he's running an R180 torson LSD out of an STI (3.9 or 4.11 I think... it's printed on the back I can check next time I see the car) but he's also going SR turbo. datsunfreak
he's also going SR turbo. Not sure if that's awesome, or... Thinking his car has been VG-powered for almost 20 years now... Quote Link to comment

He was never happy with the way the oil pressure behaved on the track in that particular motor... but there wasn't much original VG left in it... tends to happen when you push 240hp/225tq at the wheels from an N/A VG. This particular SR is unlike any other I've seen, and the turbo isn't going to be one of these mongo dyno queens, he's shooting for about 275-300 at the wheels. Quote Link to comment
Big_E-Dog
i just wanted something for freeway speeds. im at like 75@ 3200 rpm wanna drop that shit down to like 2500 running a vg30et with 30a trans and stock rear diff just seems like it revs too high on the freeway now that im driving it more. allmost every day 1 Quote Link to comment
