Matty
Hello all!! All theway from Australia i show you my humble 260z which ive only owned for near 6 months now this i how i brought her -lower king springs all round -90%new tires with the xxr 15x8.5 mags -new windscreen and full rubber/weather stripping kit -electronic dizzy from a 280zx -and the 280zx manual 5 speed (the car originally was an auto) After having a 2 HR trip home with out any problems i was out driving and her the next day and it became stuck in 3rd, limpted her off the intersection and ended up having to tow her to a mechanics. as i was told 3rd gear had "let go" making a mess of the box. :/ so after a bit of hunting around whilst i was waiting for a quote on a rebuild of my old box(280ZX5 speed) i managed to source one of the ausZcar fourms for $400 with a clean up and a quick coat of paint the new 2nd hand box looked brand new ;) finally she was back on the road my next step was in putting her on club rego which here in Australia means cheap rego each year and cheaper insurance too! but you can only drive it on club meets providing your a member of a car club of course. once i had my club rego sorted i got my new plates in the mail which i had on order a few days even before i brought her haha it was a few months before i had an actuall decent shed to work in so but i ended up making up for lost time Quote Link to comment
Matty
finally set up in the new shed i started stripping the front end after hours of preping and cleaning and a few coats of paint it came up looking better than i thought it would it looked even better once i started assembling the front end again the black is a good contrals to the red but sadly the photos dont do it justice :/ i even went to the extent of repainting the inspection light and fuse relay box. i even wirebrushed the rocker cover, it looks better than a crappy red flaking paint that was on it and it just adds a bit of a personal touch ( its all the little things that make it look good, imagually wanting to fab up a stainless steel box to slide over my brake and clutch cylinders to clean it up a bit more) having succesfully painted the engine bay i attempted the same with the intertior as it was still the factory green inside and it looked shithouse. for the interior i just cleaned and primed trouble spots and then gave her a rattle can matte black paint job. as for the engine bay i used this two in one stuff which was ideal for what i was trying to do i then tried my hand at plastic welding my damaged console and it too copped the rattle can paint job and came up a treat. as i dont have a stereo i just used some alloy sheet to blank of the facia but it will come in handy for gauges later down the track along with my mystery switch which will be for my thermo fans when i get around to wiring them up. oh and of course the Alf stewart sticker... heres a close up of the sticker for those interested in what it says ** DOES CONTAIN BAD LANGUAGE** one the engine bay and interior had been fixed up and painted the i wasnt digging the matte black front and rear bumpers so off the came and got hit with some rattle can gloss black the front grille even got the same treatment next im wanting to get a Heartbreaker sticker make up for the rear window as you would be familiar with henry's builds (the bomber 240z and his old S12 Silvia) and it only apropriate as it will at times be a heartbreaker. but for now ill be rebuilding my carbie so i hold out till i can buy my triples!! :D and eventually fit a nice air damn if i can find one i like for the right price and my be a BRE rear spoiler too, at this stage im not want to fit flares or fendor mirrors but that may change.... but for now she will just be driven when ever i can but untill then she sitting pretty in the shed. PS sorry for the picture overload/size Cheers Matty 2 Quote Link to comment

Matty
Well abit of an update is in order. last month i picked up the deal of the year! A fellow member on the ausZcar forum was parting with an L28 with a set of triple dellortos, gearbox (with new clutch) tail shaft, full exhaust system and a Des Hammill rebuild/tuning book. the motor also came with one these 'rare' elephant oil caps haha. All for $2000! ive seen 2nd hand carbies go for that even more. They will need a tune and some little things here and there but it was running fine only hrs before it was pulled out and i picked it up. it will be a little while yet but ive got a list of things ill need before it all comes together..... -new engine mounts -PWR 3 core alloy radiator -catch can -fuel pump and filter -flash anodised blue tumpets :D-meters and meters of hose(fuel lines and what not) -coolant overflow bottle -wire up my thermo fans, ive probably missed a few things but that will get me started. i also finally got my brand new rebuilt gearbox back to and i gave it a brand new rattle can silver paint job once the new motor is in ill have to try to work out which of the 2nd hand gear boxes will be worth keeping lol and try to off load the old L26 and box. then ill be looking at diff options and some suspension upgrades. i did have some coin put aside for extra parts for the swap but i dug into the funds and got some new plates for the daily instead( cant neglect the faithful workhorse) thats about it so far still at a few meets here she never fails to attract some attention, theses were taken at a couple of last club meets. And thats about it Cheers Matty Quote Link to comment
Matty
Well the last two nights were quite productive :D finally ripped out the old L26 box and all, from what started out as just disconnecting a few fuel lines and tail shaft turned into ripping the whole thing out. no ill just have to clean up some oil resisdue in on the trans tunnel and give it a rattle can paint job now ill just have to off load this sad thing... the only thing holding me up now is being able to source engine mounts and a trans mount which i can't find here in OZ but plenty of them in the states when i can find a buyer who will reply to emails or will send overseas but oh well time will tell :/ Quote Link to comment
Matty
well a few weeks ago i got around to putting my new motor in :D but while i was waiting for my engine mounts to arrive from the U.S in true ratsun fashion i decided to paint my wheels, the day i got my engine mounts was the day new new motor when straight in! so fast forward to tonight...... I finally mustered up the courage to brave the cold comforts of my shed tonight with some aided motivation with some fear factory cranked for me and my neigbours to listen to and made a little more progress in getting the old girl back on the road. i was held up waiting on a new slave cylinder as i didnt realise that the 240 and 280 boxes were different :( but none the less she's sorted and i should have a working clutch. i put the radiator back in which just clears the fan, about half an in clearance that is that a fellow forum member form the auszcar fourm gave me. i cant be thankful enough ( a few cold beverages are definately owed there ;) ) for that fan which saved me a lot of time waiting til i had found one. ill also have to source a new bottom radiator hose that suits the L28 tomorrow.New fuel lines and filter were also fitted along with a new oil filter and oil. i swapped my reverse light switch off my old box as the one on current 240 box was to far gone to savage ( ill have to try to find a picture) So tomorrow when ive got a bit more time ill have to fill the gear box and tighten the tail shaft. fit my bottom radiator hose providing i can get one, fit my catch can, cut and shut my throttle linkage to suit the dellortos and fill the radiator with coolant. and fit the zorst systemits taken a bit longer than i would have liked but have to to get this far but a few things with my daily like its service and a boost spike of 20 psi problem held me up, oh and having to go help my mate look at a tommi makinen evo 6.5 only because he thinks i know every thing given that (his words) i own a turboed car lol.which he ended up buying that day, probably didn't help my time management either :P Cheers Matty Quote Link to comment
Matty
not long now till i finally get the old girl going, i pulled my finger out and finished tightening up the tail shaft and fill the box up with fresh oil. but im held up waiting on a coolant out let the outlet on the left is the old one of the L26 is too far gone and the one off the L28 points in the wrong direction and i can find a hose that fits correctly. but while i have been waiting on other parts i made up a trolley to move my old motor around and work on it eaiser, the top can double as a work bench and comes off so i can work on the motor with ease. and i now have a Slammed parts trolley too to hold my extra gearbox and carbie its got pretty shit fitment but hahabut overall the motor trolley is very functional i also resprayed the the tail light bezels as i had a second set lying around looks a bit cleaner but the rest of my evening was spent cleaning both of the ladies and a few cold beers Quote Link to comment

Matty
well the time has come!!! so grab a beer or bourbon and sit down for a bit of a read its been a 2 years since my last update talk about slack ive done some more things obviosly since then. i got rid of my whore girl friend and became addticted to oxycontin and hookers...... but it was march 24 2014 when the below happend..... shes off to get the triples sorted and tuned finally. im abit pissed off that something as simple as a tune has taken me so long to get sorted and done. but before i even though of getting her into town i had to help my mate and build his car trailer ramps which was only fair as i need his trailer to begin with. that was tuesday last week. come saturday after work i re bled the clutch not being happy with the way it felt. that was sorted in no time with another mate lending a hand....Then what happend next i didnt expect. i turned the key on and no dash lights and some of the gauges werent working( no big issue really as i want to replace them wirh newer ones)but i had no head lights indicators or brake lights. so for the third time the dash came out and the dash wiring inspected as well as the loom under the dash and a multi metre was poked and prodded to double check all seemed fine. with the dash back in it appeared now we had majority of the dash lights and cluster lights for high beam and all that. upon closer inspection we found the plugs to the steering coloum were loose and the ignition barrel was in upside down after fixing that we had both head lights and brake lights working and indicators when they wanted to work every thing seemed to be all perfect till i noticed the bushes on my shifter are a bit past her used date so i might replace her with a solid nylon piece to eliminate play. i also noticed that it seems to be missing bushes either side of where the gearstick bolts up to the selctor but i can all sort that when she drive able and work out the best combo that suits me.after finishing up saturday arvo i get a call from my mate with the car trailer, it appears the axles have been spinning on top of the leaf springs cause the flat plates werent welded to the axles.... so you can guess how i spent my sunday morning but in the end we got her fixed and sorted and the Zed was on the trailer in no time.so hopefully ill have a fully fuctioning and driveable Zed in a few weeks tops!! but im feeling a little unsure and lost while shes away now i guess this is how parents feel when there kids are away lol March 25 2014 hmm im very reluctant about leaving my cars at shops while they are worked on. the guy ive taken it too here in town has worked on another zed before and it came out tops so fingers crossed for mine. but when i had my 300zx the apprentice working there parked a crusier near my car leaving the hand break off and it rolled into the passenger side guard thankfully it was just the guard that was damaged. so im always iffy bout it every time the cars not home but the nardi... just looks the part, ive only got the nardi horn button just sitting there as the clips need modifying to fit but i love it but a bit of an update today with the car! She's 90% drivable, there was a small issue with timing and the positioning of my throttle linkage. the mech fuel pump also was shagged so a new one was fitted. i was also told the idle jets are too small for the current set up and makes it a pig to drive at lower rpms so im just waiting to see if he can source some in town or ill need to wait til the mechanic can source some else where.... but i was pretty stoked for the progress he made today and fingers crossed shes ready for the weekend!! Any who ill update it more from my other build post from the auszcar forum or you could read it here ahah http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,12862.msg137263.html#msg137263 Quote Link to comment
