'68 520 in Portland needs extra eyes...

Hey,

 

Looking for someone in the Portland area that knows a lot about old 520's and 510's. My 520 has a 1600 dropped in it and I've been having trouble finding the right photos and diagrams to know exactly what needs to be connected to where. If you have an afternoon free and feel confident that you can answer a few technical questions, I'm happy to buy you a burger and a beer. PM me to set up a time. I'll post some more pictures soon with specific questions for those able to help from a distance. One thing I need opinions on currently: anyone ever had to extract a bolt from an engine? Looking for the best method to remove a couple of bolts that connect the oil pan that have had the heads come off. I appreciate any help! Thanks

My first post here

 

I just got a 520 in pretty good shape.

 

Nice to know of others, in the Portland Area, that have these machines.

 

I have some clutch clatter that I can live with until summer.

 

But my wiper arm springs are weak and don't provide good windshield contact.

 

I don't see a way to remove them for a new spring or replacement arm?

 

No set screw is visible around the base of the wiper arm, to allow removal from wiper drive shaft.

 

It must be inside and behind where the spring meets the base of the wiper arm.

 

But there is a chromed curved covering in the way.

 

Any idea, if it is indeed there, how to get past it without breaking it?

 

I should make this a post, instead of a reply

The wiper arm is just pushed on to a splined post/shaft, there is no keeper holding it on, but sometimes they don't come off easily.
