Here again! With lots of new photos to share!

Let me introduce myself

20130220_213505_by_atomicsickness-d5vmkw

I'm Jimmy, 16 year old. Building this Datsun for my summer car! I love to do things on my own and always happy to learn something new.

Back to car, haha :D

Custom paint booth 666

20130220_100406_by_atomicsickness-d5vmj8

Sorry for flash, but the Nissan logo is actually matte black!

20130220_200224_by_atomicsickness-d5vmju

Looks shiny and nice ;) You should compare this to the old photos that i have on page 1!!!

20130220_200233_by_atomicsickness-d5vmjy

Finger corner, sorry. But more shiny and awesomeness

AND FINALLY I MADE IT, the bearings, here you go

20130220_175858_by_atomicsickness-d5vmjk

First up, we went shopping to our local junk yard and found this lovely stove for car parts. ( 1 hour in 175 C ). and before that, the bearings needed to be in 300 C for like 10 min roughly, just that the factory grease would melt off. And then I used some paint removal to finish them. After that, I used some steel wool to have nice contact with the final product (techline glide something).

20130220_190941_by_atomicsickness-d5vmjp

Sad to say, it didn't go so well at the first time :( But the second time was a charm and we had a nice coating!

20130220_201014_by_atomicsickness-d5vmkd

Out of stove and ready!

20130217_120125_by_atomicsickness-d5vmmo

Then it was time for piston coating! (reduces heat from engine = more efficiency) 3 ready, 1 to go! Shiny ;)

20130220_212812_by_atomicsickness-d5vmkk

Ahhaha, this part was awkward, the stove started to smell so bad so i had to put it outside! There was some gas leaking out of the vents, ugh...

20130220_213435_by_atomicsickness-d5vmkt

But after all it was a happy ending! Here are the finished pistons with coating (back there is my fathers toyota's pistons, but on the front is my datsun's pistons)

And MORE good news! I got a cheap BRAND NEW turbo! It was like 355euros, normally they are like 450 euros and up, but i ordered this one from ebay.uk . So got my turbocharger and I'm working on fuel injection system next. Yes! I'm changing to megasquirt, because I met one Swedish guy who has a datsun with turbocharged A15 and megasquirt so I may have some tips from him!

Tomorrow I'm going to assembly the engine to half ready :) Stay tuned for more~ Leave thoughts and feel free to comment!

New weekly updates!

So today I decided to work with the intake a little. So I took a shovel and dug our opel vectra out of snow (50cm). Just to make sure it has 4-point injection system and a electronic mainboard that i could use with my datsun! And all the sensors could be used too :)

20130303_165020_by_atomicsickness-d5wuem

So the injection system out of this + sensors + mainboard(so i can tune it with megasquirt!)

20130303_171112_by_atomicsickness-d5wuew

Then I got my hands on to the aluminium head, and we added the heat resistance coating over it

20130303_171145_by_atomicsickness-d5wuf1

Old head gasket served its last time, but very well!

20130303_173638_by_atomicsickness-d5wuf7

Heated it a little and lifted the vents so they didn't stuck with the head

20130303_184716_by_atomicsickness-d5wufd

And here's the finished view! Looks good overall, few cracks on the coating((Lack of cleaning) but at least 90% of the piston area is covered with this coating)

And I got the turbo now! Sorry I didn't take a picture of it, maybe later on. But hope you liked this post. More pictures coming next week :) Stay tuned

yea this is a nice project so you did decide to go with the EFI?

Thank you! And yes I do, dellortos were too big for my engine and new ones would cost more than EFI system :) (at least here in Finland)

By the way, I need information if anyone knows about transmission swaps done to A15 engine!

This is a impresive project, looking forward to seeing the EFI go in as I will be doing an A15 swap soon. I would think that the standard 4 or 5 speed a transmission would handle the power just fine, I have heard that more importantly is the rear diff when putting down more than 100 horses. I like how you bought a stove just to bake auto parts. You have some cool parents behind you, Don't forget to thank them.

Thank you! I'm waiting for it too :D and I'm interested in how i can change the parameters and do my own settings to the car :) I have the 4-speed tranny, but i'm looking for 5-speed version. And for the rear diff, volvos' diff is too heavy and it sucks the power that the engine gives out. So I'm looking for alternative solution for now. Haha, we didn't bought it, just took it from the local junk yard  . And I will thank them! :) This is going slowly, but mainly because i can make this project only on weekends. But I ordered some new parts from Australia, like cam shaft bearings, front timing kit and stronger piston bolts, for high rpm (about 10k rpm) And new valve springs are coming also

Guess what time it is.....

MOAR project pictures!

20130308_172913_by_atomicsickness-d5xhr6

So here is the turbocharger that i promised to show you guys :) Brand new, around for 350 euros

20130308_172923_by_atomicsickness-d5xhrk

gosh it's beautiful <3

And now for suspension kit that i got

20130309_120922_by_atomicsickness-d5xhrq

Yummy, more parts, we're cutting of 10cm off the front

20130309_184018_by_atomicsickness-d5xhry

Here we took front-wheel drive opel shock absorber (it's the smaller one) so we can lower the car around 10 cm ;)

20130309_193110_by_atomicsickness-d5xhs4

Here we go ( we weld some bolts to screws so they came off more easily, there were cross-head screws that was so damn rusty ) and that mud guard should go to hell >:(

20130309_214342_by_atomicsickness-d5xhs9

Parts sandblasted, gonna paint it black

20130309_221754_by_atomicsickness-d5xhsn

And here i cut the first peace off

20130309_230053_by_atomicsickness-d5xhss

And here you can see the how much did i cut, it was that ~10cm and now there is Opel shock absorber inside, fits well and tight. Next thing is to weld up the upper and the lower peace. Oh and the spring plate needed to cut off, we don't need it anyways because we're going to put that custom spring kit to this.

20130309_231341_by_atomicsickness-d5xhsy

Last photo from today, just to show off. Oh and the datsun parts fits to this Opel shock absorber so we can use all the other original parts :) like the upper mounting etc.

More photos tomorrow

Oh you like photos? Well here we go

20130310_162829_by_atomicsickness-d5xliu

It was THIS hard to get those shock absorbers, first few meters of snow away and then on -15C you start to get those rusty peace of sh** parts off.. :D Summer, can't wait for it

20130310_175103_by_atomicsickness-d5xljc

Here is some welding that my father did, looking good :)

20130310_160038_by_atomicsickness-d5xlin

More welding

20130310_175055_by_atomicsickness-d5xlj2

20130310_191242_by_atomicsickness-d5xljm

Welded this back together. You wont notice the welding later because it will have some parts on it (customs spring set will cover it, you'll see) And we found out that mazda 626 ventilated brake discs should fit to this perfectly. Gonna buy new parts next week.

Can't wait for next weekend, stay tuned~

Hi, i know there is going to be different mounts for 5-speed tranny, more info here http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=60-Series_Transmission . And if you want to put 5-speed transmission to your j15, I suggest to go to technical forum, because I don't know about j15 motor, sorry.

Sorry for the threadjack, but...

If you can find a front crossmember and lower control arms from a B210, they will bolt into your car and the A15 will bolt right up to them.

20130315_162512_by_atomicsickness-d5y3ou

New Mazda 626 parts fits just perfectly!! Damn, looking good ;) It's like super bolt-on kit. Now i need to figure out how to put the rest of the brake system on this, probably using some Volvo parts

20130315_162536_by_atomicsickness-d5y3ox

Look at that! I need to find some nice rims for my car ;) And don't worry, i'm going to paint these parts before they're ready to roll

20130315_162709_by_atomicsickness-d5y3p1

Ooooo, look at these :D new parts from Australia!! ARP bolts, core plugs, FULL front timing kit, new cam shaft bearings, yum.

More photos coming this weekend, stay tuned. I'm so exited! Getting goosebumps

Bad news everyone...

20130316_155159_by_atomicsickness-d5ybee

We pushed the old bearings off. It went all okay

20130316_173939_by_atomicsickness-d5ybeg

But when we tried to assemble 3rd bearing, it bent quite badly... Now I need to order new bearing kit.... And that's not all, sand blasting cabinet didn't work... So no more pictures... Maybe next weekend.. I dunno... Sigh
