Atomic
Should be ready tomorrow  Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Okay, I almost got it ready. had to buy more stainless steel mig rod, 250g wasnt enough.. And the flanges warped a bit so i need to straighten them, probably going to use a big belt grinder or smth. Pictures: Quote Link to comment
Atomic
More stuff with exhaust mani: I still need to grind some corners and welds, need to weld more too, to correct some spots. And then i need to make a collector for turbo flange 1 Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Whoo, big news, it fits! But needs some modification still... I probably need to make new engine mounts and move the engine a bit towards so I can increase the clearance between turbo and steering box Turbo and the sidewall have good clearances in my opinion, nailed it! Atomic
Any ideas how big should the clearance be between turbo and steering box? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Any ideas how big should the clearance be between turbo and steering box? A lot. Think how much you want, then double it. That downpipe is going to overheat the oil in the box and could boil it out. I think you will at the very least need a blanket for the turbo and a heat shield for the steering box. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
As much clearance as you have between the turbo and the plenum, could you move the flange to rotate the turbo up 20-30 degrees or so? Then you could run the downpipe over the top of the box and down the firewall. Of course, the upside of running an A-series is that you have lots of room to move it forward. Quote Link to comment

finney
I think you might be inspiring me to turbo my J13. Right hand drive (Australia) is where its at!! 1 Quote Link to comment

Atomic
I think i got the solution: And then i measured the volvo gearbox stick location, it was 76cm from the engine So when i moved the engine forward 10cm it helped me with the transmission problem too! Then I got radiator from 2.0l Opel vectra, it's a tight fit! I will be able to get 4 small fans to the rad in the engine bay The radiator is bit thinner but it has these large aluminium tubes going in it, so i hope it will stay cool :) And then I got this 3'' 90 degree pipe Quote Link to comment
Atomic
To sum this up, i got car parts from 5 different cars  for now. Radiator from Opel vectra Front shock absorbers from Opel kadet Clutch and pressureplate from Volvo 240 Turbo Brake calibers from volvo 240 Turbo Rear axle from volvo 740 Tranny from volvo 740 Front disk brakes from mazda 626 And wooo 28k views! (probably half of them from me, haha) Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
I have read that some hot rod guys have run exhaust manifolds close to steering box as 1/4'' But how close to they put a turbo downpipe? These are different things. ^_^ A turbo/downpipe gets quite a bit hotter than an exhaust manifold... Quote Link to comment

Atomic
Bump, haven't had time to do anything about the project. I'm trying to hunt down some interior parts tho. I got the speedometer/clock/fuelgauge set (meaning the original cluster) for $8  Now I need to find the trim that goes on top of that Edited October 25, 2015 by Atomic 1 Quote Link to comment
Atomic
30k views  Ok guys, I'm working on the car again! I applied some black layer of protective film to front and back fenders and some rust protection stuff to the ventilation systems. Also welded the sides a bit and repaired the rusted venting system. I'm also almost complete with the tranny assembly, I forgot some parts from it and I had to open it again  I'm left with one little spring that I dont have a clue where it goes, the exploded view doesn't give me enough hints: part 32b http://www.jimellisvolvoparts.com/images/parts/volvo/fullsize/GR-34947.jpg I'm also thinking about spraying a matt black layer of paint to engine bay and inside of the car today, we'll see if I get everything prepared for that to hapen.I'll try to get some pics for you guys, but they wont be anything world changing, just some paint works and dirty/messy garage pics  Quote Link to comment

Atomic
Little update. So my daily driven chrysler got almost stolen. The driver side door lock got destroyed and the whole steering column got strip down from the plastics. So now my blinkers don't work as they should so I can't drive it daily anymore... Need to find parts to fix that, delaying my project again... Sigh... Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Got the tranny assembled finally. Trying to get tools for welding the new and old tranny case together to fit A15 block ;) Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Ayy update. Made some cuts to the front so I can fit some intercooler piping through: Also removed the battery tray, need to clean up still. Going to try to paint the engine bay this weekend :P Quote Link to comment
