ricopico5
I am converting my Datsun 521 from a 4 speed to a 5 speed. I have the trans, now am in need of a 1 piece drive line. I hear it comes out of a 720 pick up.. Anyone?! Please get back to me if you have 1. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well what 5 speed? The dogleg will fit without changing the 521 driveshaft. If a 620 or Z car 5 speed there are some 720s that had a one piece driveshaft but never heard it will fit without shortening so why not just shorten the one you have? Quote Link to comment
wayno
The driveline depends on which 5 speed you have, is it 26 inches long or 31 inches long? You will also have to make a differant transmission mount, as the stock one will hold the 5 speed to high and it will likely hit the tunnel. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
I have a long 5 speed in my 521. I got the proper yoke for the five speed, a slip yoke, and had the front section of the drive line shortened, and the correct yoke, put on the front U-joint. Yes, I had to make a shorter rear mount for the transmission. Quote Link to comment
Tucson620
I have a 620 long tail 5 speed in my 521. I pieced together the driveshaft from a 620 front half and 620 carrier bearing, then the 521 stock pieces from there back. I think Hessianben's thread pioneered that solution. And I had to make shorten my rear tranny mount too. The result is the slip yoke has a about 1.5 inches less engagement, but it's workable. Had to move the shifter hole back 5 inches or so - still clears my seat fine. Made a custom plate to replace mine. Install of engine/transmission combination is tough in a 521. I installed separately - still learned plenty of lessons. Quote Link to comment
