Red Rocket A bluebird story, Datsunville taking on lost projects

Recommended Posts

This all started 6 years ago, I had been driving my first Coupe and noticed this red Coupe on Ebay.

"I want I want I want" I said, then realized I was in the middle of building a house and upgrading my Coupe.

Not the best timing.

Years later I sell off Commando (my green Coupe), Buy rusty (bare metal Coupe).  While checking C/L this Red Coupe pops up in Maui. I make an offer, the seller (Chris) has got an offer and is considering the car sold.

No loss,  however one day out of the blue I get an email. the Coupe is yours, if you are still interested.

I mentioned I was interested but did not have the cash. No rush just stay in touch, Chris replied.

18 months later I finally had the cash and ready to buy.

Chris is a busy guy, and wanted a simple transaction. So I flew to Maui, arranged for tow truck, and drop off at the port. Finally met and did some business.

Got back on a plane and flew home, 2 weeks later i get a call it is ready to pick up in San Diego.

20 hour round trip drive and a cute new bird in the yard.

Thief!!! Give us back our Datsun. We have little, and your plate spills over. Damn. I'll have to fly out to Cali and snag one back.

Don't worry, I snagged my wagon from Oregon and brought it back to the islands... wish it were a coupe though.

The next car I buy from thekeeper will be a Coupe!

I don't know when that will be . . . but it will happen some day. ;)

I'm just happy I can say "the next car" !

I'm sooo excited to pick up my 72 in the next few months! :w00t:

I was in Maui earlier this year. Was supposed to have a beer with a certain Datsun dude, from what I gather he was going to show up for just one day.... Damn that would have been cool!

Vic has not decided on rims, yet

After a new battery, come to find out it was the fuel pump

Tom swapped gas tanks, for an insump fuel pump tank. And she starts.

Checkin lights and other stuff seems to be good.

Test drive. The front end fills like it is falling apart so time for a parts swap.

Robin came with 4 wheels disc, coilovers and 280zx struts, but the inserts where shot

Also came with a LHD center link, lucky for us I just bought another Coupe, that had a used RHD center link. So Tom grabbed and installed that, along with adjustable T/C rods

Skib installed new inserts, camber plates, another set of modded 280zx struts. Bump steer spacers. repacked the bearings and this this now drives like a caddy

Can't decide between the SSR's or the Works

So we slapped some panty sports on her

Dove this little bitch to DMV, about 35min drive, got stuck in 5th gear 3 miles from home, lugged it and went through every red light I came to.

However got her reg and title in the mail.

Then Skibby came out to help in the death trap box flared beast.

Couldn't do anything about it so drove it home in 5th.

Finally got out of 5th when I could make a very steep hill and popped that bitch out of 5th and bang

now we are heading to the pizza meet in it, 3 hours round trip no 5th
