BOZO Posted September 15, 2012 Report Share Posted September 15, 2012 I bought the only 5 speed in the surrounding area at a local wrecking yard and was proud to get it but when it arrived it did not have a shifter. Upon getting it home, I tried to shift gears but nothing worked. I disassembled the tranny and found a broken shifter shaft right at the selector fork in the tailshaft. Searching online transmission parts dealers has turned up a lot of parts, just not this particular shaft. It runs from the shifter lever forward to the fork which shifts the three forward shifter rods. I don't know the year (77 or 78 truck, my guess) but the tranny has the older 56 mm countershaft bearing, old style (thinner) forks, and staked nut tailshaft. If I can come up with this part, I would rather not return this tranny as they aren't as plentiful as they are on the West coast. Does anybody have one in their parts bin that they are willing to part with? Link to comment
