datsunaholic
Z22 heads have quite different intake ports from the Z24. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Z24 top Z22 under. It will work, just, and the bolt patterns are the same. . Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
With a Z22 intake on a Z24, it works. I'd be very skeptical of the other way around sealing, especially the middle 2 cylinders. Quote Link to comment
84 4x4
But the head surface it self is not different enough to hurt any thing? I have both intakes and both heads host curious what my best option is gonna be or if i need to track down another z24 head. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The heads are the same combustion chamber size. I've cc'd two Z20E two Z22(S) and two (at least) Z24 heads and all same size. I suspect the Z20S head from the 720 is smaller but haven't seen one up here. If you have a Z22 intake I would run it with the Z22 head if at all possible. Not sure if the Z24 carb will fit it though so check this. Quote Link to comment

Yeah... the carb bases are different....thus.... if one was running a Weber, you would need the 1 piece carb adapter for the Z24 and the 2 piece for the Z22. Quote Link to comment
84 4x4
Yeah i was running a webber on the z24. So your telling me i have to find another adapter in order to put it on the z22 intake right? Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Yeah i was running a webber on the z24. So your telling me i have to find another adapter in order to put it on the z22 intake right? Correct...it's the same adapter for the L20B etc Quote Link to comment
yankabilly
i have a z24i intake on a z20 head it seals fine i used the z24 intake gasket ......as for the cc of the head combustion chamber i'm not sure i think there is a difference....heres some pic Quote Link to comment
yankabilly
look how close the valves are the sides of the combustion chamber ...the z20e combustion chamber is 3mm smaller by my measurement Quote Link to comment
84 4x4
Ok how much difference is there between the intake Ports on the z20 and the z22? Quote Link to comment
yankabilly
they are the same ...i don't have a pic of a z22 head but i've had a few and the the same as the bottom one in this pic..the top is a z24 if you use the z24 intake you will not need to find an adapter for your weber Quote Link to comment

The bottom head in the picture has to be from a '83-'86 Mileage Option Z20S (carb) truck. I have a picture of one but never seen one. I worked out the combustion chamber size by knowing it was a 2 liter motor with flattop pistons and a compression of 9 to 1. There's no way a Z22/Z24 head would produce this so, there had to be a smaller head out there.... and there was!!! I figure the Z20S, but only the mileage Option Z20S head, had a combustion chamber of about 45cc. You used this with a Z22????? this smaller Z20 head will give 9.8 when used on a Z22. On a Z24 you'd get 9.49. Quote Link to comment
yankabilly
that z20 head came off a z20e out of an 82 200sx ...and yes i an using it and z20e cam on a z24i in my 86.5 4wd i have k24e pistons to going in my next z24 block.. might you know what the compression will be then???
