rayven14
I need to know if anyone here knows where I can get the driveline cut down? ... In the San Fran Bay Area? and how much do I have to get cut out? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Too many variables in KA 5 speed lengths for one. Measure the length of the KA 5 speed and the length of the tranny that was in the car (likely around 26") and subtract. Best would be to install and measure from differential flange to transmission, ignoring the KA dust cover on the back. Take this to a drive line shop. Quote Link to comment
rayven14
Hmmm Ya but I dont have the original tranny.... I figured this was gonna be really a pain in the a$$, of course this isnt that big of a deal considering the work done so far. Quote Link to comment
RedBanner
The four speed was around 26", read what the bawse write again lol. Quote Link to comment
rayven14
So what does "Around 26"" mean? is that 25 and 1/8 or 25 and 15/16? Cause thats two totally different measurements. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well it is (26") for a 510 but it's not said what it's replacing. A 620 4 speed is 31.5" long. I've measured 26.3" for a 4 speed, assuming a 510, but the motor mounts and the tranny mounts may move the transmission forward or back a small amount. This isn't an exact science. Besides measuring between the rear end and the installed transmission is the absolute best way to determine shaft length needed. . Quote Link to comment

Phixius
If the trans is in the vehicle, just measure inside to inside. If you dont know how to measure for a driveshaft, google it . Just do a internet search for a driveshaft shop in your area, a internet search will yield some. But what i like best for calling around, is a phone book, the internet doesnt have everything, if you cant find one, just call some local mechanics shop and ask if they do drivelines or where is a good places that does drivelines... Edit: Also, hopefully you have the splinned slip fit for the KA tranny, dont know what the original car is. But the slip fit for the five speed L seiers is the same for the KA, but if yours was originally a flang, youll need the slip fit. And just a lilittle FYI, if your lengthening your driveline it costs more, because they need to replace all of the tube, and charge by the foot for new tube. They just dont add to existing material. But shortening is cheaper, as they just cut and reweld. Or another option is.. if you know someone that is experienced with this, you can have them cut and reweld, then take it to the shop for a balance. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Call trucking companies and see where they go for driveshaft repair. Quote Link to comment
