i recently changed my carburator on my 81 datsun and got a weber. after i finally adjust the crab so that it idled to spec it would strat to accelerate on its own. but if i would feather the acclerator while it was doing this it would go back to normal. anybody know why this would happen.

If brand new weber, problem with accelerator pump arm. Metal parts gulling/grinding against each other. I used some antisieze , fixed it

Another common problem is tightening down the throttle nut. It needs a very light torque, just enough to compress the lock washer. Any tighter and it jams the throttle so it doesn't seat correctly. So has a variable idle speed.

what you said about the variable idle speed sounds like whats happening. when i start the car it will idle correctly but after i drive around for a bit and come to a stop the idle doesn't fall unless i feather the throtle. and inbetween that i get these random bursts of self acceleration, and if i'm at a stop when it decides to accelerate on its own it will rev to 6000 rpm and then suddenly go back to normal

undo the shaft nut and tighten it down just enough
