boonedock saints
Gents, Ive followed the rules and searched the subject, but didnt find what i was looking for. So heres the question....74 260 has no dash, all the black plastic and foamy formed material is gone. Gauges buttons and all is there, even A/C vents, but its just a metal skelton right now. Everything is there and works.....was thinking of making a rude looking metal dash for it...but first wanted to ask. There are these caps that sell for 90.00, they look like the dash, can they be made to work without the original being there? Also Saturday the boys and I are going to the yard to rape this 75, it has a dash but of course its all cracked, is it worth trying to fix...say it sold for 25.00? Thoughts or ideas. Thanks Quote Link to comment
bonvo
you need the original for a cap to work get the one from the yard then cap it Quote Link to comment
king bee66
you just need the couture for the cap to lay on. a can of foam insulation and a knife can take care of that, just cut it down to the right shape. keep in mind it will make a massive mess Quote Link to comment
I'm BLUE
Yes ... an original dash ... that isn't too cracked ( we need pictures) is well worth attempting to fix or have ... bu t .... you live in az .... soooooo .... pics needed as the thing could be hashed ... but $25 ... Consider filling the dash cracks with " lab metal"( resin with ground up aluminum powder) by Alvin products ... or a higher end bondo "type" filler , but not the cheaply stuff! !!!!! Good stuff! !!!... i am entirely unsure how any of this will hold up to the heat as i live where it rains, humid, and summer gets to 100 degrees a few days a year. Do homework on wiring ... and different gauges ... if you so do choose to change over ( you have already stated it works) ... this could pose a problem.... look up hazard switch locations ... You really need the base for the cap to glue to .... unless you fill with a foam backing or fiberglass/epoxy/whatever first ... Many clamps .... all over ... hard to get dash cap glued on entirely correctly the way you want sometimes This all costs money ... :) I really like how jay flocked his dash .... check it out ---> http://community.ratsun.net/topic/11701-jays-72-s30/page__st__80 Pics? :D Good luck Quote Link to comment

"> Blue and the rest, just read Jays thread, and the hell with a cover cap thing...and looking at his dye job, the boys and I will be peeling all of those rear section vinyl covers off the 76 in the yard, maybe get the door panels as well, just for templets...they are junk, but we can build some new ones Im guessing. This project is nothing like the Camaro, due to budget and locating parts...not too bad, but didnt exspect pricing to be what it is on some things...no disrespect...just assumed new stuff would be a tad lower. But this makes for good learning curve and fun times....? right?...lol Quote Link to comment
