ggzilla
Yep, those are aftermarket wheels. Quote Link to comment
DatWifey
I don't doubt those came off a 280ZX, just saying they aren't OEM 280ZX wheels. These are the ones I was telling you that you'll want to make sure to have proper lug nuts for. I have no idea what you have on your 1200, but we have these 6-spokes on our 510 that I was mentioning today. Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
is $100 worth the rims and tires, or should I be on the lookout for some 280ZX 6-spokes? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
It's woth it if you love the looks of the rims. Wheels that fit 1200s are not rare, eveything that fits 510 work plus more Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
is $100 worth the rims and tires, or should I be on the lookout for some 280ZX 6-spokes? I wouldn't count the tires in that. They are way too big for a 1200, so that's money wasted, not value added. ;) $100 for the wheels might be worth it, if you really like the looks of them. Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
Ok maybe I will hold off until something else comes along. I was hoping I could utilize the tires too. Not loving the look, but the price is in my range and they look a hell of a lot better than the mismatched hubcaps I'm rocking. Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
I made some progress this week. I changed the oil, the oil filter and got her rolling for the first time since I've had the car. I've been reluctant to drive it because the brakes are so bad. My Dad had more confidence driving it than me, so he drove it down to his house so we could work on it a little over the holidays. My sister got me some new side mirrors from Moon Eyes that I installed (will post pics later). Proof it lives: I am still on the hunt for a left side lower door hinge. All the ones that I have come across don't look anything like mine. Could it be that it is rusted beyond recognition? Even the passenger side hinge looks different. Does anyone know of other compatible options? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The hinge is broken, snapped in half. That is the standard 1200 hinge. They should look like this (larger hinge is the lower one). The photo does not show the door holder-opener sheet metal extensions. Quote Link to comment
Morrisun
I have upper and lower door hinges- check your email. Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
That makes sense. I was thrown off by the extra metal bit. The hinge is broken, snapped in half. That is the standard 1200 hinge. They should look like this (larger hinge is the lower one). The photo does not show the door holder-opener sheet metal extensions. Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
Got some new wheels today. Found some 280zx rims with solid rubber. I am on the hunt for som lug nuts now. Hopefully I will have them on soon. Got a couple moon eyes mirrors too. They look pretty clean. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Those tires are a liiiiittle too tall for a 1200... ;) Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
:hmm: :poop: Two steps foreward, one step back. Those tires are a liiiiittle too tall for a 1200... ;) Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
well then, what are my options for tires now? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
At your ride height, I'd say 185/60-14 would be perfect. If you go lower, 185/55-14. 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Also, 185/60-14 is still a fairly common size. Should be able to find some used ones cheap. ;) Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
Morrisun found some stuff I needed. Hoping to install the cowl baffles, grills and door hinge next weekend. Maybe even put on the new wheels if I can figure out what lug nuts they take. :D Quote Link to comment
KELMO
Those wheels will most likely have a shank with washer type lug nut.....seems they were something that only the OEM lug nuts would fit, I could be wrong. One of the A students will come along and confirm.....sorry I'm just one of the C students around these parts. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
seems they were something that only the OEM lug nuts would fit, I could be wrong. One of the A students will come along and confirm..... To fit properly, they really do need the OEM shank lug nuts. Good news is you can get the lug nuts from almost any Nissan with factory aluminum wheels made between 1978 and 1990ish. Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
Who likes to color? I have been messing around with some art and this is where my mind has been. Print it out and let some kids at it, and it might be worthy enough to hang in the garage. Quote Link to comment
graveltrapp
Here is a good easy tire size comparator. Just plug in the stock size tire rim combo and start playing with available/affordable tire sizes until you get close. I am running 185/60/13 and I believe this is very close to the stock outer diameter which is the number you are trying to match. It is down at the bottom of the page. Thanks for the coloring project, my kid/me will have some fun with it. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html Quote Link to comment
graveltrapp
Are those fresh are vents metal? and where do the other parts aside from the hinges go? under the grilles? Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
Yea those are metal and the baffle plates go under the grill and redirects any water that gets in. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
I am running 185/60/13 and I believe this is very close to the stock outer diameter which is the number you are trying to match. A 185/60-13 is just a tiny bit smaller than the stock tire (very tiny, like 3-4mm), but is a great fit for a lowered 1200. Quote Link to comment
ZLOG
I had some time to work on the car this weekend, ended up discovering I have a lot more work to do. I sized up the wheels and I definitely will need to pick up smaller tires. I have the cowls in place, but no screws  Also, note the Moon Eyes mirrors. Found a bunch of rust underneath. and more... There also appears to be screws coming through I used this Jasco spray on paint remover. It worked remarkably fast and I was able to strip both bumpers and half of the grill. It was difficult to control the over-spray, but after some practice I was able to get it to bend to my will. And lastly, I fixed the lower hinge on the drivers door. That had been bugging me since day one and I am really glad that was checked off the list. Still need: Screws for cowl grills (x12) Lug nuts (x16) Tires (185/60-14) Quote Link to comment
