We decided to go on a road trip with our friends James and Victory. After Friday night pizza meet we drove to Bakersfield to stay the night, I just got the fuel guage working again in my 68 James and Victory were in the rusty bird sr20 I am in a stock 1600 4 speed 510. We stoped at a rest stop to take a leak and all be damned if the gas guage stoped working again, well I figure James knows how long we can go so I ask when do we need to get fuel He sais we can make it to our normal spot around 20 miles this side of Bakersfield (he was riding in my car) a while later Victory gets on the radio hey Im on empty James sais we are fine it is still about 1/4 at empty we all agree ok. So we keep driving around 70 75 MPH with a 4 speed its around 4000 to 4300 RPM about a mile from the gas station my car hesitates ( putter putter ) I look at james and say we are out of gas, he sais we can see the gas station its right there COAST so we coast down to 45 MPH I hit the gas again got up to 70 and he sais COAST THERE IS A HILL COMMING UP so we coast off the off ramp up the hill I throttle the car again and we make it to the top, look both ways and blow through the stop sighn. From there we coasted down the hill around the corner and into the gas station (Car still running ) I shut the car off and relieved we made it take a deep breath, I fueled the car and it took in a 12 gallon tank 12.10 gallons james with the sr took a little over 9 gallons also the 5 speed helps but much better fuel economy with alot more power. From there we continued into bakersfield where Victory blew a brake line in Rusty well due to her fast thinking and skilled driveing I still have nice tail lights on my 68, she flew up next to me on the offramp as we came to the light ( I thought she was just screwing around ) NOPE SHE HAD NO BRAKES yikes , we continued carefuly to the hotel parked and went to bed. Next morning woke up met James friend Niel to sell him some parts, we had brakfast together then went to the local autozone for brake parts Niel was a master brake line guy for us that day, he helped to fabricate and install a new line for the left front brake ( turnes out the steel braded fuel line took about 8 months to rub through the brake line) we bled the brakes and continued to Vegas. We had a great time meeting people and displaying our cars at Mobs Customs shop japanese classic car show. We stayed a couple days in Vegas and had a great time (what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas) so we had a great time. On the trip home we had no further events or problems. Thanks to my friend James especialy I know exactly how far I can go on a TANK of gas The End

Thanks for the fun James Victory Niel and Jackie
