JoeR
How exactly does the EGR pipe attach to the exhaust manifold? I see a threaded nut that appears to thread into the manifold around the pipe. Anyone have any tips of photos of this being removed? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes, it screws into the manifold. Here is one Datsun engine type. They all a little bit different, even different years of same model are different: Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I assume you are just 'getting rid of all the smog crap' ? If so, cut the pipe about 3" from fitting and remove it and the fitting from the exhaust manifold. Crush pipe end flat in a vice or use a hammer. Curl the flattened end over to seal it. Alternately you can take the fitting to a hardware store and get a metric pipe plug to seal the manifold. This takes care of the exhaust and look clean. Now the intake end. Because the pipe is no cut and open to the ait the EGR must be at least disabled. You can do this by removing the vacuum hose to it and sealing the end towards the carb. OR cut the pipe and remove the fitting and do the same as the exhaust side. If this is done the vacuum line need not be removed and sealed. If removing the EGR valve and the VVT that works it you will have to seal the hole on the intake with a block off plate or JB weld or something. Best to just leave it. Quote Link to comment
JoeR
No, unfortunately I have to live under the rule of CARB Nazis and cannot modify the system in any way. I need to take the manifold off to see if its cracked or not. Quote Link to comment
Skulptr
i used a pipe wrench on the exhaust side on mine. worked, but you cant use it in the back side of the intake. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Ah so. Try a pipe wrench but do it on a hot manifold. This will swell the hole size slightly. Go easy they are very soft fittings. Quote Link to comment
Buzzbomb
Soak it in PB Blaster before trying to get it off...I did this, and after the initial push, mine came off pretty easy with a short open end wrench. You'll have to do a little prying to separate it all, IIRC. Quote Link to comment
JoeR
Cool, I'll try the PB blaster. Quote Link to comment

nissanprerunnerdavid
On my 85 z24 it is on the veryback and threads directly to the back of the manifold. Quote Link to comment
