battlewagon
I have seen pics of bags in between the LCAs and UCAs, I have seen one pic of a guy with a bag mounted over the top of his UCAs. How are guys mounting their shocks? Is there a dedicated thread to bagging a 521 here? I want to start laying mine out but I need a quick tutorial, pics and maybe even part numbers? I have been searching to no avail. thanks! Quote Link to comment
wayno
There is a guy in project datto called "521johnny" that has done all this, http://community.ratsun.net/topic/28056-body-dropped-72-521/ let me warn you, everytime I go there, there is about a 50% chance that my computer will lock up, there are to many photos maybe, but today it has locked up everytime I tried skimming to find the page you are looking for. There is also another guy called "hacked521" http://community.ratsun.net/topic/1725-hackeds-521-turbo-bagged-right-hand-drive/page__view__findpost__p__30006__hl__hacked521__fromsearch__1 that has done it to, both these guys have done major mods to there frames, although hacked521 did the rear a couple differant ways I beleave. Both are basicly sitting on the ground. 67 411 went a differant route with coilovers as I recall http://community.ratsun.net/topic/21176-my-521-build/ This guy also went with coilovers. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/24521-the-520/ I personally just want a decent ride. battlewagon
hey thanks wayno, as I am trying to wrap my mind around front suspension options and no one has answered my query in the project section, would anyone see an issue with building strut towers and threading a set through the UCAs? ala... (except on 521 arms) Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
the upper control arm and its bushing, are not designed to hold the sprung weight of the truck... while it has been done, your asking for trouble. youre better off getting a 2500 bag and fitting it to connect to the lower control arm.. gotta keep other persons on the road safety in mind.. wayno
I beleave this is how to fit a bag to the front correctly, there is a plate under the upper arm that the bag connects to. This is the article I got these photos from, it's in the 620 section on a link. http://www.minitruckinweb.com/tech/suspension/1202mt_air_bagging_1973_datsun_bulletside/index.html I am not saying this is the only way, they were the only photos I could find, there all over Ratsun, I just can;t find them. I don't know how the shocks get mounted, didn't look that far into the article, it's not my bag. Quote Link to comment

I want to build strut towers and thread the strut through the UCA, and attach to the LCA. sorry if my question was confusing, thanks for the reply. Quote Link to comment
Blazed22s
Mini truckin' mag just did a quick "how to bag your datsun" article a month or two ago and it shows how they did the shocks also. Its pretty a pretty basic torsion bar bag set up. I did mine the same way, but wanted to run a little bit bigger bag (slam specialties SS6) so I notched into the frame a little bit. Heres a couple pics. Quote Link to comment

Blazed22s
Not yet. Im buying some Isuzu p'up front shocks and going to mount them the same way they did in the minitruckin article. Also going to upgrade to disc brakes up front as soon as I get my tax refund. Quote Link to comment

culowdragger72
the way they did it on MT doesnt lay frame, you need to bottom out the lower arm to lay on 18's or bigger and make sure cup the frame deep enuff to clear the bag. i recommend 2500 contitechs or 2500 universal single or double bellow or slams 5 or 6.
