did the work round trip today..

nothin happened... big surprise..

in any case, did notice when i got home, engine was getting a little low on oil pressure at idle. blip the pedal and it shoots right up.

now im not sure what its idling at currently, but it might be low.

another thing was is got pretty warm today. up into the 80s.

i put 10w30 in it for this break in procedure.. wonderin if i shoulda went a touch thicker,

other than that, its good.

makes great mid range with the cam gear adjustment i added. might fool around with it some more to get it where i like it.

doesnt look like it using any oil now. there are a couple tiny leaks, so after a couple more good heat cycles ill go over all the exterior hardware..

it sounds much healthier now too. with the cam gear redrilled, it has a nice lope. its moving a lot more exhaust out the tailpipe now too.

all in all for now, it seems pretty okay. ill get an oil change happenin here after a few more trips to work and back.

more to come........

alright then..

oil is changed. took it for a drive with the tach.

its nice to know a little more about whats going on with the engine..

took it on the freeway and it does 70 at about 3500rpm... i keep up with traffic around there.

the rpm gap from 4th to 5th is laughable.. maybe 200 rpm.. i dont see how they can call this a 5 speed lol

in any case, ill get that figured out later. im gonna put a d21 tranny in it, and be done with it.

also went to do the new brakes. buuut like i figured, i need the caliper mounts from the pathfinder. so i will continue that later.

oh yeah, the parts have shipped. theyll be hear around the 3rd..

more to come..

Let me know how well it keeps the motor cool, it'll be a good option if it works out. :)

for sure..

jason already has one in his single cam truck though. we took it to canby and back with it, so i wouldnt worry.

and then this happened!

The overdrive is a % change. All are over 12% I believe without looking. Forth to fifth at 3,000 would be at the least 300+ RPM difference and on a zx with the monster 25.5% fifth it would be about 765 RPMs different. The tach may also be off when revved up.

What transmission do you have at the moment?

I notice the idle after the cam change is very low and loping. Surely the Altima doesn't idle like that? Could it be out a tooth?

its a 71b from a 80 720. its an L20b trans with no bellhousing swap.

if i remember right, this has the .88 overdrive, so its hardly noticeable.

the cam swap was done with a pair of 93-95 altima exhaust cams. the exhaust side installs like normal. the one for the intake gets advanced by 3 teeth to make it work on the intake side. when its rolled forward the 3 teeth is advanced the cam too much. takes away top end.

i redrilled the cam gear 80* clockwise on the intake side and only run it 2 teeth back now. brings the lobe separation and intake timing back to a little more than stock.

the carb is the bottleneck now as it kinda falls on its face around 5500..
